My original circulators were these large red ones with spring dampers. They cost a fortune. At the plumbing supply store a guy told me to use the small taco circulators and he was right, and that's what I did. That was on my old 65yo pancake boiler.

1972 boiler is nothing. I replaced my 1962 oil fired boiler in 2022. I am the second owner of the house, and the old bessy boiler heated the house for 60 years.

The motor was probably getting power but frozen and it stayed like that until the wires heated up and melted.
