So couple things. One I love watching your videos. All of your vids on gas fired boilers have been nothing but added knowledge I can add to my arsenal. I even will watch them on occasion if some of them pertain to a job I am on. Two, I thought I saw a slight crack in one of the burners. Farthest from the left. All the way in the back by where it mounts to the burner chamber. Again love watching your videos and hearing your humor. I look forward to all new videos. Keep up the amazing work!!!

Hey Steve, I have a customer that has a total of about 80 of those POS/ PITA units. It's a common problem to have the spot welded manifold studs break. Most often the one on the right as in this case. The hose clamp is becoming a common sight!! I noticed that you edited out the part where you probably cursed for 15 minutes trying to fight with the springs!! Little tech-to-tech tip; Don't fight with them! Leave the burners popped up or dropped down, mount the manifold, THEN slip the burners on to the individual nozzles. the long springs are there so this can be done on this series. Ridiculous right? Some engineer dreamed that up trying to make our jobs easier. Yah right. In theory, you never have to remove the manifold from the brackets, or even remove the entire drawer to change the thermocouple. Just reach under and pop the 3 burners on the left out and you can get to it. IF the unit looks pretty clean, you can do it that way. Sometimes running your 1¼" burner brush into each tube and vac-ing them is all it takes. The bright orange flame and high CO level after taking the burners out isn't uncommon especially with all that lint/ cat-hair. It looks more to me like it's an un-vented dryer's lint.(Have you run into the dryer vented into the chimney yet?? Now there's a hazard!) With the vent damper always open and a shared chimney, lots of excess air is always going up the chimney. Some of that lint is of course up in the boiler slabs too, causing even more CO! My bet is that if you crank UP the pressure for an hour or so, then back to normal, you'd have more reasonable CO. (after the lint and crap burns off) ►►►To the peeps asking about the gloves; Yah, most of us wear them now, much of the time just so you can hand a customer a bill that doesn't have a bunch of greasy handprints all over it! I have 2 kinds; wicked cheapies for the quick use like handling an oil filter, and some that are more expensive neoprene that will take a lot of abuse, like servicing a Friolator!

love that old school heat. My grandmother had a 1900s 3 story dutch colonial. (had all original doors and windows, it was awesome) 18 radiators spread across 3 floors. (some big boys, think the biggest was in the attic) 1970s 300,000 btu boiler (she had the original snowman replaced) with a single circulator (big old B&G) and had at least a 4" main that the boiler hooked up to. The main ran straight across the length of the house with individual connections to each radiator.. Sure took a a good few hours before the boiler would hit 180*+ on the supply....

gloves keep your fingernails and hands clean, if you dont wear em you will get dirt under your nails and it will stay there a long time.. I wear them for this reason. I assume this is why he wears them also. a lifetime of working with hands makes them heavy callused which will also trap dirt.. generally making you look more grimey

@summitm18hvac90
@summitm18hvac90 6 жыл бұрын
My guesstimate is to keep hands cleaner. Saves time from constantly cleaning hands moving from different parts of putting a furnace in. I'm thinking of wearing them myself. For example, after the furnace is placed where it's going, and after you do metal work, normally do gas next... messing with black pipe gets hands all sorts of black and just nasty. So then I have to clean up before doing drain or electric. That's my outlook on it lol
