Reminds me of the commercial on TV for Farmers Insurance. “We know a thing or two, because we’ve seen a thing or two”. Never know what your going to see in the real world of HVAC service!

I've always referred to that green wire mesh material that you get at the hardware store and cut to fit as "hog hair" filter materials. The kind you wash with a hose and it is pretty limp stuff without any frame or border. It does work better than nothing, that's for sure. Thanks for the vids, the info, and the entertainment. God bless bro.

My 20 year old Goodman furnace started to make a noise that was similar to the noise in this video. It turned out that a factory label inside the furnace came loose and was sucked into the squirrel cage fan. Who installs a furnace without a filter rack?

I purchased a digital manifold from Steve's sponsor, for one reason, and one reason only; they've stuck by him for quite some time now, and if they've stood with him for this long, I'm certain they'll treat me well should problems arise. Sorry Johnstone....

What kind of hack installer would not include a place for a filter!! Home inspector didn't catch it either!!
@jblyon26 жыл бұрын
Friends of mine bought a house and the home inspector completely missed that the supply duct for the far end of the house had a 20' long split up in the attic (also that the return from there had been plugged up for some ungodly reason). They had over 1300 CFM loss found during an energy audit.
@jblyon26 жыл бұрын
@@bigc8300 Since the air handler was in the crawl space it would have been the cheapest and easiest option. Seeing as they didn't even put in a normal filter housing it seems to fit the general MO of whoever installed it
@robertsitch14156 жыл бұрын
In northern regions where most houses have a basement housing the hvac system floor returns are generally what you will find. My uncle bought a house in 2002 which the previous owners did not have a furnace filter installed. He said the blower wheel was covered in cat hair, so he took it to his friends mechanic shop and pressure washed it.

Is it worthwhile to keep a few trim to fit filters in the truck for an easy sale while working on a furnace call? A lot of your videos show filthy air filters, so I’m thinking it’s an easy way to make a few more $$ per service call....
What a hack job on that furnace, surprised that building inspector didn't pick that up, but maybe installer never got permit, so homeowner gets screwed.

The air returns might need a professional duct cleaning. There’s probably a lot more dust and debris gathered inside the trunk lines that would eventually make its way to the furnace again.
