Just be really, really careful (like call a professional heating tech) when dealing with gas devices and exhaust gasses. I have a bad heat exchanger and I jumped out a roll-out switch, ran the furnace for a few hours and 2 of my carbon monoxide alarms went off at 3:30 am. Daughter called the fire dept and the lead officer/volunteer made me promise I wouldn't turn the furnace back on until I get it fixed. 13 year old exchanger under warranty, $1,500 estimate for labor. Getting quotes now for a new furnace. Bummer how much everything has gone up recently. Hang in there.

Corrosive atmosphere in the basement might be causing the air inlet screen and burner directly below to rust, also hard on the flame sensor. The switch hanging in the blower compartment is an auxiliary limit control used for downflow applications and is usually installed into the blower housing somewhere. Shouldn’t be an issue in this case. I always took a reading of the DC microamps just to be sure the flame signal was strong enough to meet the manufacturers spec.

Power surge. There are issues with board designs where banks of equal value resistors are uniformly placed with equal value capacitors. If heavy use, turn off, then quickly turn on, the capacitors discharge all at the same time, creating a negative surge wave that can wipe out a controller chip. The solution is better board design, with different value capacitors and resistors mixed. Think of the issue as pushing someone on a swing too hard.

Is it possible to test a flame sensor with a meter? Is there an expected resistance on a good one?
@scotthvac38576 жыл бұрын
Yes but it requires a meter that reads miliamps. You have to find out what the manufacturer of your unit requires some are .8 some are .6 just depends.

Hey , i enjoy your videos . I noticed at 17:56 you had a part flipping in the wind . At 31:47 and 31:48 to the right of center of the fan housing it looks to be where the part mounts . As you had said to her they usually mount on the fan . I’m not familiar with what that part is for but it does look as if it goes there . I work on a lot of things also but always learning stuff . I see this was three years ago but if you get time let me know what that part is supposed to do . If it takes readings from the fan and its underneath could be why the boards are failing.

this is what I don't understand, why didn't you replace the flame sensor first before the board to see if its the sensor, now you don't know for sure if it was a faulty sensor or the board. I know those boards are not cheap. may not have needed it!
@charlesmurphy15103 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. You can also short out the sensor wire, if it runs you know the sensor is bad. One way to sell both, change them both, problem solved, must be both.
