There once was a plumber named Steve Who plumbed a young maid by the sea. She said "Steve, stop your plumbing, somebody's coming." Said the plumber, still plumbing, "It's me".

A good friend of mine in Chicago paid over $1,800 for a new board in a similar furnace last month. A few hundred dollars is definitely more reasonable. Steve is honest, though. Most others who fix things are NOT :(

Good job! After an issue with my board on my furnace when it blew out a relay I put an inline fuse on L1 to help protect the board. It may not stop a relay from going bad but it will keep a surge from blowing out the board.

When I could walk better, I used to go to a Church that had Heat Pumps. They were supposed to be New and improved, but they Never felt very warm to Me. I live near Asheboro North Carolina.
@jblyon2
@jblyon2 7 ай бұрын
A lot of older churches have no insulation. One I grew up in had over 100kW of electric resistance heat throughout. They had to turn it up Thursday evening to get the place up from 50 to 60-62 degrees for Sunday service. Slow and steady heat does fuck all when it's all going out through the walls/roof. They put in a big oil boiler and it had no problem getting the whole place up from 50 to 70 in the span of 5-6 hours.

You're a very good person, Steve! I'm happy you got the customer up and running. Not lying and / or replacing extra stuff at ridiculous prices. You said a "couple of hundred" for a new board. Well, here is where your honesty comes into play ... ... I have a best friend who lives alone in the Chicago suburbs. He is also blind. Last month he had a board replaced on his Carrier furnace - Charging him $1,810 ... This was "4 Seasons" HVAC with another company, ABC, giving him even a higher price. He even had the audacity to tell him that his furnace was not fixable and should be replaced, quoting him over $7,000. I was there and stopped him from selling my friend a new furnace and demanded he finish the board replacement. I know you are in the Northeast / New England area, but ironically, if my friend paid for a first class ticket to fly you (Steve) there to Chicago with a new board it STILL would have been CHEAPER than those Chicago CROOKS who took advantage of my blind friend :/
@joeburner7120
@joeburner7120 7 ай бұрын
No one took advantage of him. You said another company was going to charge more. I am in the business and some Carrier Infinity boards cost $1200 plus dollars. Someone had to come out, diagnose it, spend time to go get the board, drive back and install it.

love the video Steve and i would never invest in a condensing furnace i would go as far as doing dual fuel gas and electric heat pump as in my area electric can at times be cheaper and that is the only reason however it still gets to cold for it to be useful so im happy with my 2 stage lennox from 2008 its never given me any serious issues i just had to replace the blower motor last year for the first time and i didn’t have them ecm piles of expensive crap in it just a standard 2 speed motor i do love the 2 stage heat that it has and would be the only fancy setup i would ever want its saved a little over the years but we went with it for comfort not savings as it keeps the house warm much more consistent honestly i think that is the only fancy stuff you need on a furnace along with a decent smart thermostat from honeywell i think i have the 9000 series but if you’re not using the features these simple ones you often install for your customers is all you need my family is always coming and going so i love the mobile control with the app i don’t even use the programming function but you can disable it that is a nice thing the one other thing i personally have never understood is the efficiency rating of a furnace honestly your burning gas or oil and blowing air across the heat exchanger so you would think an 80 percent unit from the 70s as long as it’s maintained and safe to run would still work just as well as a new 80 percent unit from today so i do have a ton of respect for your honesty because most people just don’t understand that and i’m a believer of getting the most out of something until you can’t for reasons of safety or part availability just because something is old doesn’t make it bad the other thing i don’t understand is tonnage and over sized units my grandfather was an engineer and when he built his house he put a 5 ton system on the 3rd floor not because of the needed heat capacity in the winter but because of the needed cooling capacity in the summer as heat rises and it was open from the first to the 3 floor and so many people we had over when we were planning replacement didn’t take that into consideration im not a expert but i was surprised by it as you can keep that house at 74 all summer long with it 100 degrees outside and it doesn’t short cycle i don’t think it does short cycle in heating either come to think of it so i honestly don’t think the replacement is going to do as good a job

Hey Steve this is my relaxing time watching your videos while thinking about all the repairs i did and the crazy systems people want to pour money on but hey more business for me I always say you want to be stupid I will be smart I tell them should replace the system because parts for the old ones are so expensive you can get a new furnace for the price of two mag or parts it’s fun dealing with those tight spaces you’d think this designers would test them

Personally, if diagnosing a 20+yo gas furnace, I would've checked the heat exchanger before doing other repairs just in case. I'd hate to have fixed it just to leave it with a potentially leaking heat exchanger

I make way more money and have more work now than I did 4 years ago. Fuel prices are coming down, economy is kicking ass. I cant understand how someone can say they were better off 4 years ago unless they are missing the fat covid unemployment checks. I know I wasn't better off. I didnt get those hand outs. I worked the whole time. Prices do go up. Thats why rent or a mortgage in 500 or 600 bucks like it was in th 90s. Plus politizing a pandemic got a lot of people killed. Im not into politics this is just what I see.
