Not really any more than a regular umbrella. Regular umbrella's already have metal support structures, the amount of metal you have has way less effect than how high the top is.

I think it’s even better than a real umbrella, because umbrellas often have a metal tip. On the tip of spiky objects the electrical field concentrates much stronger than on round objects like the umbrella in the video, thus attracting lightnings much more. That’s why lightning conductors are pointy and high voltage gear has these big metal balls.

how about instead of using a propane gas tank make a water -> hydrogen converter by electrolysis, then umbrella will collect water from rain, convert to hydrogen and oxygen then burn the fuel !

This is an interesting concept, even though it's done a bit in jest here. I could picture this working a lot better. Aluminized fiberglass for the cloth, a smaller burner element, and make the burner as part of the umbrella sleeve mechanism so it can actually fold up. Now you've got a portable or easily stored reflective heater. Any chance for a version 2.0 with those suggestions?
