Years ago I was in key west with my family. We went to the gas monkey bar restaurant. Richard and his friends had just been there. According to the staff we talked to, he was extremely rude and nasty to everyone. He was drunk and obnoxious and left no tip for anyone!! No one we spoke to had single good thing to say about him. The sad thing is there were people who had admired him and his show and were really disappointed to see how much of an asshole he was in real life!! Many times the person and image portrayed on television, isn’t really who these people are. At the end of the day they are all human beings, no different from anyone else. They are just in the public spotlight and people have expectations of what they think they are but are rarely the truth!! I personally don’t know Richard Rawlings and don’t care to . He seems like an asshole to me and theirs plenty of them everywhere in life. I don’t idolize or care about anyone except my own family. That very same vacation we arrived in Key West at 2 am . My wife and son were tired and went to bed . I went on the rooftop area which overlooks Duvall St. the main street in Key west. We stayed at a hotel called the Pegasus. All the bars and shops and restaurants are lined down this street. They call it the New Orleans of Florida because there’s more bars within such a small area. Much further down Duvall street, closer to the western side of the Island was Gas Monkey restaurant.at the time we went there because we all watched the show and thought we would try it. I’m a welder and make things from repurposing other things and the restaurant was full of things made like that. The bar stools I still have pictures of somewhere because I thought I might make them. It also had two floors with a pool table upstairs and an outside dining area just outside of where the pool table was. It also overlooked Duvall st. I even remember what I ate that night! Never really cared for the guy!! They had some really cool cars on the show and that's why I watched it but I could tell I wouldn't want to be around Rawlings for any period of time. He had a good knowledge of the cars and the car buisness and he should have stuck with that. Greed usually gets egomaniacs like him. Any man who wears all that jewelry and runs his own hands through his hair a dozen x a minute cares about himself more then anyone else and that's always a problem.

I had some involvement in the bar/show back then and that guys email pretty much summed it up . I would come home from dallas and tell people that the bar was like a teenagers house whos parents were gone all the time. My god what a constant disaster.... Ya know there isnt much difference between Bernie Ebbers and most of these other guys with money. They just leave carnage in their wake and keep it moving to the next money maker... Much like flipping junk cars.... Now Dennis Collins has taken a page from this book and can be seen on KZbin whooping and hollering and throwing his hands all over the place while basically just being a car salesman . COME ON DOWN TO CRAZY CALS !!!!! We got the classics,,,, we have a million holy grails and unicorn piss flows like rain water !!!!

Just about everything held up on high in public opinion is just another target waiting to be knocked off. The bigger they are the harder they fall is directly associated. Never was too much of a fan of the show or the personality. No doubt there was much positive light shed on the industry by this show. I did enjoy his first mechanic Kaufman. That Falcon he built directly effected the value of those overlooked cars. I don’t know if it’s possible but going back to what worked at first is highly advisable. Don’t like seeing anyone fall. We’re all in it together. Same thing could happen to anyone. Yourself included. Dealing with the public on a large scale like this has to be a serious challenge.

The premise of this show was just for TV, the cars built were rough at best or downright dangerous, restorations or resto-mods don't take days or a few weeks to flip they take considerably longer, Take Harry's Garage on youtube, his Lancia Zagato took 2 years to restore because it was done to a standard better than factory, Project Binky on youtube a resto-mod project has been going on for 8 years shoe horning the running gear of a Toyota Celica GT4 into a 1980's Mini shell, serious engineering challenges. Not the same as sling some crate motor into a ladder chassis, throw some bling at it and a half ass paint job which pretty much was all the builds on GMG.

When I saw the trans am episodes of them visiting Burt, and ruining 3 Old’s 403 blocks I was done. If you care at all about what you and your engine builders are doing an Oldsmobile is about the hardest to fuck up, and they went through 2 before getting 1 half ass running and thought it was gold. Plenty of people have gotten that shit right, building in their driveway or garage.

I disagree with the people on here bashing Richard, it's clear that the gas monkey trade mark was created by Richard and he was the one that built the gas monkey brand up and was a partner and he helped promote the bar and they had a license agreement to use the name ,but they didn't honor the agreement and he has the right to cancel it and protect the brand he created and the partner and mangers are being greedy and trying to push him out and steal his brand, and if they didn't even do their part of the original license agreement that shows who they are! And that's their fault and he can stop them from using the gas monkey brand because they are in breech! And I am sure if they are in breech of the agreement the court will handle them and all their opinions will not matter! And no matter what the brand belongs to Richard and the contract will exspire and then he will have them at his mercy! He can simply not relicense the Brand to them or nail them on the price! So let's see who comes out ahead at the end! Lol

Meet him one day ordering a bunch of food with a group of people. He ordered an enormous amount of food and sat around for about 10minutes then just got up and left without paying for the food. The bill was for just under 300 dollars worth of food which the owner of the small privately owned business had to pay for. If they would have waited 5 more minutes their food would have been ready. I was a big fan back in the day but would rather watch him cry and go broke now. If karma is real I hope he goes broke and homeless because he acted like an ASS that day.

Dennis was the money behind Rawlings. Rawlings is nothing more than a spoiled rotten egomaniac. He showed this quite well on the show where he went into other shops and redid them. I remember the one where the owners girl friend showed up and Rawlings accused the guy of holding out on a car, he took it.
@Verttime3643 күн бұрын
No, Rawlings is actually self-made made his money from discovery channel. Dennis Collins on the other hand has been a rich kid his entire life and has never had a job. He does not make a living at that mom and Pop Jeep store. I saw a video where Rawlings got up to travel to see a car and had a beer while saying he had no breakfast. I have watched several people go down this road. When you have no interest in food at mealtime and only want beer, you are close to the really horrible symptoms. Yellow skin, puffy face, problems from head to toe. I guarantee you will miss your liver, unfiltered blood is bad for many organs. Not a nice way to spend the last couple years of your life. Maybe he will get a transplant. I like him, he is entertaining, smart and sometimes a good boss. Rawlings drunk, probably don't like him.
