It’s so strange that year after year you say the same thing. “Keep it short.” Anyone that doesn’t believe it should come look at my Bermuda. Following your steps my lawn looks amazing after two years post new sod. Best game-plan on the KZbin. Thanks doc

Doc, I have researched the problem with the very small Super Juice spray bottles and have discovered a much better solution. I purchased a two liter bottle of A&W Root Beer and after finishing it, I tried what I had hope would work. The wonderful spray head screws down tightly after removing the loose cap ring. Now I can treat much more if my lawn without returning to the 5 Gallon mixing bucket to get it refilled. PS - I have followed all of your lawn procedures for the last year or so, and my cool season grass has never been healthier. Keep up the good work. Ken Ohio

You just can't beat the look of a lawn cut with a reel mower. My neighbor's yard is nice and green and weed free but still has a different appearance compared to mine since they use a rotary.
@everetttokio54053 жыл бұрын
As much as I love my bermuda yard, and as much as i cut it (at least 2 times a week), I just cannot spend this much money on a mower. I told my wife that owning one was a dream of mine and she gave me "the look". You know, the one that happens before you sleep on the couch for a month. So yeah, going to stick with my rotary for awhile and slowly save up 😁

I can't express how much I want to tell all my neighbors to cut their grass lower. Most have it 3-4" at least and it's Bermuda.

I have Bermuda and I keep it at 2 inches because my lawn is really bumpy but why dose everybody want it short!!! I do understand that’s it’s healthier low but any other reasons ???
@WhittyPics3 жыл бұрын
Most have rotary mowers and it is hard to cut any shorter than 2" or we get scalp marks
@mstew233 жыл бұрын
It’s almost impossible to keep grass that short without a reel mower though and most aren’t gonna spend the coin for it. I cut as low as I can go on my rotary and that’s level 2 because lvl 1 will scalp to dirt in some areas. Can’t afford a reel mower and have roots in my yard that would destroy one lol

Not sure if you have talked about this specifically in a video, but could you do a video discussing the pros and cons of reel mowers vs rotary mowers? If budget doesn’t allow for reel mower like this, what are other options to give to people for reel mowers and for rotary mowers?

I have Bermuda, hard red clay soil, and we are a hundred yards from lake Lewisville in North Texas. I hired TruGreen to treat my yard because I didn't know my lawn. (New House as of July 2020) It is patchy and some areas are yellow. And a few spaces are bare so I put down some fresh topsoil and seed in the bare areas. I water 2 times a day with sprinkles. What do you recommend for my clay soil?

You wouldn’t like Bermuda. It looks good five or six months out of the year, then goes dormant looks dead. Plus, it’s extremely invasive. It’s a real chore keeping it out of flower beds. I absolutely hate the stuff. I loved Kentucky Bluegrass, when I lived up north. If you live in an area where Kentucky Bluegrass and Fescue are mostly used, check out the “Lawn Care Nut” channel and his earlier videos made before he moved to Florida. He lived near Chicago and likely had a lawn like yours. I think he had fescue. He has lots of good tips there. I’m sure PGF Complete, Innova 7-1-2, and Humichar would do work great on your lawn.

Doc - can you provide some insight on using reel mowers for cool season grasses?
@daburg81103 жыл бұрын
Hey Doc, love your videos, thanks. Hey wanted to get your feedback on something. My lawn hasn't been aerated in probably 6-7 years and has some rough spots. I had my lawn aerated last Saturday so its been a couple days. I used a 3 in 1 Scotts Turf Builder (fertilizer/ seed and soil builder) on it today and then watered a bit. I really don't think there was enough seed in the 3 and 1 bag, so I am curious if I should do a straight overseeding on the lawn tomorrow and then do a starter fertilizer again a few days after that? Let me know what you think. Thanks, appreciate it. Tim
@DrB_CU3 жыл бұрын
You can put cool season seeds on it, and starter fert at the same time.

Well. Now I’m confused. I thought the GK model had a solid roller in the back, not the typical drive wheel. That was why I was interested in it. I’ve seen other videos that show a solid roller on the back for GK. What am I missing?

Can you do a video on raising the McClane back wheels to get a lower cut, per the manual? This is much cheaper than buying a new front roller... according to the manual, you just need a few more chain links.

First comment just got a 25 inch mclane last week unfortunately I got a slight manufacturer defect that misaligned the rear drive and unlike my other mclane is causing the chains to come off and snap.

Doc you have the bermuda lawn care guide, is the care for zoysia grass basically the same? if not can you produce guides for different grass types? That would be helpful for those of us that don't have bermuda.

Zoysia is almost identical. The only difference is some post emergents don’t work for both.

Question: How can I go from a mostly St. Augustine lawn to a all burmuda one?
@Finalsuspect14683 жыл бұрын
Best thing is to rent a sod cutter and cut it all out. You can kill it off with round up first if you'd like. That will give you the best chance of leveling it all out and getting good soil contact with the new sod.

Hey Doc, love your videos! My wife calls it lawn porn and I watch them all! Wondering if you have any experience with Swardman mowers? I have an all electric garage and I would love to find a really good cordless electric reel mower. Found the Swardman Electra on line, reviews seem pretty good.
