When word spread on social media that the price for gas was only 69 cents a gallon, people flocked to a Sacramento gas station to fill up. Now it turns out it was all one big mistake that cost the manager who set the price his job. John Szczecina says it was a simple error. The price of gas that day should have been $6.99 a gallon. Instead, Szczecina says he accidentally put the decimal in the wrong spot, making the price 69 cents a gallon.

@@bro6568 Sorry to hear about your estimate, please do get a second opinion. True story: I needed some brake works done. 1st place said $90. That sounded very reasonable, but as I had errands I decided to hold off. When I was ready, I went to another shop that closer to me and they wanted $900! So I called 1st place and asked if there were anything else wrong with my car, and they said "Nope." Then I asked why would this Brake Masters (they were both Brake Masters) be charging $900 for works? The nice man replied his Brake Masters was corporate, and the one I was at was probably private and was just riding on the reputation of Brake Masters and overcharging people. Needless to say I went with the 1st place, and they did stellar works for $90.

You realize the gas company doesn’t lose money just the owner of the station & they make just a few pennies per gallon, the gas isn’t the profitable part of the business and you will fail without the inside sales. @@marvisaiya How is that flawed? The only flaw here was the miscalculation of the gas price by the manager, but obviously the gas station employees were busy that day instead of not hardly having anything to do. Yea it was funny and good for the people who needed it but not good for the owner who had to pay out of pocket for that gas before it was even sold, so he took a major loss. And then has to pay out of pocket for the employees mistake as well. What about his family? They’re trying to survive during inflation too. And not good for the employee either. It was a mistake he didn’t mean it. But a costly one. And now he has to worry about how he and his family will survive. Though I’m sure he will find another job in no time.

This has happened to me before where an attendant was one decimal too short and I was paying less than a dollar per gallon that day. I filled up on 5 dollars and still had change left over. I acted like I didn't notice when I saw how many gallons were being put into the tank vs the dollar amount I was getting to, It seemed super slow but in reality the gas was flowing. The man across from me figured it out shortly after me and began shouting in joy for how much he was paying per gallon. I'll never forget that day as I was a broke college kid commuting my way to class that day. I was so stoned out of my mind that I thought I was going to be in trouble for continuing to pump after the attendant told everyone to hang up their pumps and start over, but the opportunity was so great I couldn't resist. I remember peeling out of there before the cops were somehow going to be called and force me to pay the real amount I had pumped, the weed had me real paranoid lol. I only used 3 dollars and some change out of the 5 dollars I put on the pump and because of the paranoia, I chickened out of asking for the difference back, which they probably wouldn't have given anyways considering I had just pumped about 10 gallons in my tank. Luck usually never finds me but we had a pleasant encounter that day.

The owner of the station has been a jerk to him for years. He set the price wrong and then got the hell out of there. Told the cashier to play dumb and let it burn. He's a gas station manager, he'll find another job.

The fact that it's 7 dollars a gallon tells me we need to get rid of every single person in our government and replace them with people who know what it's like to actually live in America

Its on purpose. If you can't pay to run your cars, then you don't use your cars, therefore you became carbon zero. They don't want us owning gas cars anymore so they will make it so prohibitively expensive that the peas... I mean citizens can't even dream of using one. We get electric busses, they get private jets. Get the picture?

Supply and demand. Everything has a price, but that doesn't mean that it'll be a price you can afford. The average person can't make their own gasoline so we have no choice but to pay what they ask. (Edited to fix a grammar error.)
