Acetone is the best for gunky stuff cleaning and so much cheaper than brake cleaner. As always, Thanks for sharing with another great film. 🎥

Great help thank you so the parts I’m ordering are coming from topline. It will lower the front a bit (if you think that’s worth doing) It comes with a new sway bar connected to the front frame. Or is it the part between the struts that I should get. Thanks again.

I would think a new fuel line would be a better option and no worries about a rust flaking off and going where it shouldn’t

Thanks for another video! Evapo-rust was the best product for my tank when I did it👍🏻 only bummer was a I had some pinholes form around the outlet of the tank. Think those could easily be welded?

Yes. Take it to a radiator repair shop and they can do it. Having mine done for same reason.

Yes, a radiator shop just like the other comment here, would be able to fix that for you.

Slade that acetone works great,.. if i remember correctly from the video, i think you said that you got it from Walmart... Do you recall the price of the acetone? I need to make me a 50-50 mix of acetone and ATF... Dirt cheap to make and according to project farm it performed better than the highest price penetrants...Slade thx for bringing us along.. From what I remember it was a little over $20 for a gallon. I need to start playing with chemicals more and do some short videos on what to mix to achieve certain things. I hope that makes sense. God bless you, my friend, I’m going to start putting up other extra videos like that, with chemicals and different solutions. But I’ll still put VW stuff up every Friday. Slade a little off topic but related. Im would like you opinion on removing my tank on a 71 SB which needs cleaning anyway. But I’m working on replacing the entire front suspension bushings struts and the like. Would it be easier to access the suspension with the tank out. Thanks again for your timely FILMS.

No such thing as off-topic my friend. When you lift the tank out of the super beetle, you’re going to notice that you cannot see down through like a standard beetle. It’s kind of sitting in and enclosed area. For except your steering shaft. so it really shouldn’t much matter if it’s in or out when you are doing this suspension. Here’s a little tip for you and most will disagree with me and a lot will agree with me. Get yourself a strut bar, when you’re all finished. Before the front end alignment. it truly makes a difference in handling on Bends

Did you treat the tank with anything afterwords? What about the topside of the tank? Also, can you use Ospho to treat it?

Sir Slade: A very good video. Acetone, other than MEK, Turco, Muriatic Acid etc., is about the strongest acid type of liquid you'd want to use in that tank. I have a 74 SB, with light rust/sediment in the tank. A friend of mine out here in AZ recommended just what you did, but also for agitation and knocking off of the rust perhaps a bit quicker, would be to put a few marbles, or small smooth gravel pieces in the tank to aid in getting that rust out. Since you had to turn the tank on its sides, what type of rubber cap did you use to cap off the outlets and what did you do to seal off the filler neck? Thanks again! Yes, I’ve actually tried vinegar before too, which works quite well. For some reason, the acetone seem to really take that gas varnish out pretty easily. I used vinegar for rust before, and it actually worked quite well.
