Gasgas Tpi vs Tbi

Thanks for posting. After 20+ years on a 2001 CR500AF (Service Honda), a couple months ago I bought a low-hours used '23 EC300 with the TPI, near the end of the 2024 season (in Colorado). I have about 20 hours on it so far. First time on an injected bike. First thing I noticed upon climbing aboard is the compact ergos. I'm tall (but not "big"), at 6'2" and ~200 pounds. Though the EC300 is taller, the rider compartment is smaller. Upon riding, the first difference I noted Right Away between my Carb'd CR500AF and the EC is the delayed response when initially throttling up. Next thing I noticed was the barely perceptible delay in throttle response throughout the range compared to the carb'd 500AF. Because of this delay, I've gotten into trouble on the trail. I liken this to "drive by wire," or "fly by wire," on new cars and airplanes. The bike's (car's, plane's) computer has to interpret what the rider wants, check all it's sensors, then do what the rider requests. There IS a delay - not an instantaneous response like with a carb. The next negative difference is the BrakeTec brakes. They SUCK compared to the NISSIN on the 500AF. Like the throttle, these brakes have contributed to a number of excursions off trail, and highsides. I hate 'em! This next season I need to make a decision on whether to replace them with Nissin, or just try to get used to them. Also in the brake department, like Rampage Enduro experienced, I noted that it is hard to locate and apply the rear brake, with it's tiny pad. There is nearly always a split second of panic that I'm going to miss the pedal and get into some sort of painful trouble. I'm probably going to replace that piece like Mr. Enduro did. Being tall, at 6'2", definitely affects the ergos and positioning on the bike. I just swapped the low factory bars for taller ProTaper bars, and moved the mounts to their fully-forward position. I'm looking into lowered foot pegs as well. The EC300 is taller than the 500AF, and has a few centimeters more suspension travel, but the rider compartment is more cramped. Tall seat just installed, along with the ProTapers, to make this better going forward. Regarding the 2stroke oil inject VS premix, my buddies behind me on the trail much appreciate the lesser smoke of the EC300 VS the CR500AF. I'm still getting used to the suspension, and haven't completely sorted out my preferred clicks yet. Being 6'2" and with a fully-geared ride weight of about 225 pounds, I'm likely going to need a stiffer spring, like on my 500AF. Overall the EC300 is a great bike, I just need to get it fully sorted for my locale, my size/weight, and riding style. I'm looking forward to next season.

Good info thanks for sharing. I have the 21 GasGas EC300 an converted it to TBI after 10 hours riding. Its been a bullet proof bike. Only issue I had was codes coming up an making the bike run weird. After trial an error getting the right OBD cable (euro 5 plug) I cleard the codes and happy days all sorted. I also run a TSP low compression head. The thing is a powerhouse. Im looking forward to giving one of these factory TBI bikes a run an maybe adding one into my collection of 300 2 stroke bikes.

Same here the 300 tbi motor is pretty amazing!

I demoed the TBI 300 and the fork was super soft and went through the stroke too easy. They also had the new EXs' with the closed cartridge forks and they were so much better. Held up really well and absorbed rocks and roots no problem.

Get the injector relocation, head and remap from two stroke performance on that tpi bike. Done that on my ec250 and that off idle blubber is gone. Power everywhere but still smooth.

Awesome, I’ve heard nothing but great things about tsp. That being said I love the tbi motor so much I’m going to sell my tpi.
