Wild camping Malta Europe

A new adventure for me Pukka and Angelo. We are going to try backpacking and do an overnight in our tents in this beautiful location of Gnejna Bay area. We are going to trek from Golden Bay to Qarraba and then to Gnejna Bay. Go past the picturesk Gnejna Boat houses and then make camp in a tiny spot between these large boulders. Where we will cook DInner and enjoy the night, We will practise the leave no trace prince and no open fires. Hope you enjoy.

Hi Pierre ! Im going to Malta next week. I want to spent one or two nights in tent (from sunset and leaving at sunshine) Do I need special autorisation for that ? I've read many articles saying that is forbidden in Malta... Thanks !

From what I know depends on where you do it. Right now at Ahrax only in one place and with a permit due to hunting but there are other places , depends if you intend to wild camp or not

How do you manage to keep mosquitoes away? And why did you camp so far from the sea?

We didn’t had any mosquitos , there is a very rocky area and to find a flat spot near the sea was very difficult , altough later we did find more spots but not by the sea, or maybe cause we don’t know the area so we’ll too .

Hi Pierre I'm coming to Malta next month and hoping to do some wild camping, what are the laws and can I get a fine or in any trouble with police? I stealth camp in a bivi and leave no trace, don't have fires etc. Ps 'no, it's backpacking' was the perfect reply to 'do you have deodorant?' 🤣🤣🤣

In Malta the rules are very vague regarding camping, altough Mellieha has its own by laws ! Also park tal Majjistral is a big no

What is the legality? Where are you allowed to do wild camping?

I cannot tell you 100%, but from what I know we cannot camp in parks and if in places like mellieha, you need a permit. Here should be fine .
