Nice, clear explanation and demo. Thanks so much. All in all, I think the 6" has the best bang-for-buck, and I like that it seems a little more violent. I don't think the 12" justified the amount of bp, gas, and, most importantly, the heavy hardware. Love me some fireballs!!

So that's how the movies do it. Every Michael Bay-type fireball explosion is either CGI or gasoline charges. Theatrical, but unrealistic when portraying things like high explosives.

They also use a propane type system for indoor and allot of theatrical type events. Most of the ones you see in movies and concerts are propane and computer controlled. Lastly, that’s Bc they don’t have real fireworkers on set to make more realistic type explosions. Their is a difference is pyrotechnics guy and a fireworker. Look at “Ned Gorski” channel here on YT if you are serious about learning about fireworking.

Jake Eves........you make them. Or have them made. Pyro supply shops maybe like woodysrocks.com might make them for you. But they are enlarged “mine pots” for fireworks. Most people make their own. Ya just weld steel pipe to a thick base.

What is the required wall thickness, please? Would proof testing (shoot a 2X lift charge, tube full of water, in a pit / behind sandbags) to be somewhat confident that the tube won't burst and throw steel shrapnel during the show be a good idea?

That should work, water is heavier than gas so you could be absolutely sure it wouldn't burst the tube when you use gas and half the powder.

The water acts as a plunger to push all the gasoline out of the tube. There is fall out from what ever exits the tube LAST. You don’t want gasoline to be the last thing to exit the tube because it’ll light everything on the ground on fire.
