Well since the world powers also wanted access to the gate, the JSDF also had to protect against them So the JSDF is basically the authority protecting japan from a warring empire, and the special region from other countries

Sadly, it's not going to happen. The original light novel content went in a bad direction plot wise, the author 'borrowed' a concept from another well known source. It's not really technically plagarism, but the studio believes it would be a little too close for comfort. Last I heard they were in the process of writing an entirely new plot specifically for season 3. That being said, whether it actually manages to be done or gets stalled out is anybodies guess.

I heard that as the chapter goes on, the battle with evolve into a guerilla warfare. So perhaps we might see the Japanese being ambushed and cornered by the empire like Vietnam

The biggest dissapointments i had with Gate were that it was too short and it was basically government propaganda about their infallible and always good military. Also i would totally write a fanfic of people figuring out other ways to slip through and have adventures in the fantasy realm if it weren't for the fact i barely passed english in high school and generally suck at words-making from imagination.

And it's so refreshing to see. Most anime makes swords look absurdly powerful. Like heroes / villains with a katana slicing through metal armor, deflecting bullets and the like. It's refreshing to see a series where gun vs. blade battles go the way they should.

@@Warfoki Those series usually involve magic in some way and the thing with it is you can make it do whatever you want. The magical system here is a joke compared to stronger ones. You know where a finger flick is enough to nuke everyone

If magic can do anything at the flick of a wrist of the protagonist, then there are no stakes to anything, since said protagonist is just going to pull a new spell from his backside and problem solved. If this is played for comedy it can work, but played straight it becomes a snooze-fest real fast. It's just lazy writing.

Because the show is focused on a gate that opens in Tokyo. Now if said gate were to open in say, Washington DC then yes, an even more hilariously one-sided war would happen. Edit: If you want to turn the opening into a comedy, have the gate open somewhere with relaxed gun laws.

America’s policy in this anime makes no sense strategically, like it was written by an American Hater. We would back Japan 100%, our nations are really close politically, and have climbed the mountain of prosperity together since WW2’s ending. There is no benefit to either a wait and see approach, or a black ops/CIA sabatoge whatever the hell that was operation. The first thing that would happen is a joint military operation to defend Japan against any enemy as stated in the Security treaty. Then we’d establish an investment and trading venture with the backing of both our governments for mutual economic benefits. It makes zero sense for us to have any kind of tension over this issue.

Only found out that the author is a former JSDF officer that's very imperialist longing for the glory days of Japan so USA being seen as bad guys looking to exploit the gate is unfortunately what the author's view of the US-JP allied treaty agreement thing looks like, a giant middle finger to the treaty
