Good video. Even though it's a few years old, J&G is still paying $175 while a few others are up to $200. That being said, after hearing about how well they treated you (loaning a weboost is unheard of), I figured I'd apply with them for my first attempt at guard gating. Thanks again.

The good is definitely the money. The work isn't hard and when you aren't checking someone in or out you can do whatever you like. I've seen woodpeckers, night Hawks and a beautiful moon set. I didn't even know the moon set. The bad is the distance some gates are from town. Like you said, your town is an hour away. So it's driving to town then all the time to get errands done and drive back. It makes for a long day for both people, at least for us. The ugly for us was the bad, bad roads. Potholes messed up tires. We replaced u joints twice and water pump twice. The cost of living in West Texas especially is higher, so groceries and gasoline is higher. Then to get car repairs cost more because you don't have the competition like you would in a larger town. So that's our good, bad and ugly.

Christina Routon OMG THE ROADS!!!!! They really are the absolute worst!!! When we were in Midland I (Tracy) hated having to get out on the roads!! The potholes, the trash on the side of the road, the traffic! I always wondered when my head was going to just roll off my shoulders from all the bouncing!! No bueno!!!! 🤦🏻♀️

I believe that since you get a 1099 at the end of the year from J&G you are considered self employed. So the $6.00 a shift workmans comp is a required expense. And required expenses are deductible on the Scheduled C. You probably have many other deductions you can claim so you won't be taxed on the entire $181.00 a shift.
@tracybercegeay42645 жыл бұрын
Marcia. Warner Campbell The other companies we worked for did not do the workers comp this way. They paid the full amount and we didn’t have to deal with it. We are saving receipts for things like gas, propane, etc for taxes.

What Equipment should we get before we start gate guarding, and what do the company's want you to have?
@NoAcresHomestead5 жыл бұрын
Thats a tough question. It all depends on what company you work for and what type of gate it is. I would not buy anything up front. Wait until you find a company and gate, they will tell you what you need to buy. The only 2 things i would buy is Lights and Driveway alarm because most companies do not supply them. Guard1 and Gate Guard Services are the only 2 that do supply them to my knowledge.

Hi, what do you do if one of you has a dental or medical issue while guarding? And my husband has prescriptions for migraines, how does he get those meds?
@NoAcresHomestead3 жыл бұрын
We take care of medical stuff when we are home. We get our prescriptions transferred to the nearest pharmacy. If there’s an emergency, you have to contact the company you work for and they send someone out to replace you so you can go take care of the emergency. You may or may not be placed back on that gate when/if you return.
