I mean, they did have Rory, so the victory as a forgone conclusion. But the execution of the whole ordeal is very... FanFiction-esque. If, for whatever reason, Takumi Yanai reads this message, he should take that to heart. Actually, considering he published in Arcadia before AlphaPolis started taking it up, that actually makes a lot of sense. Regardless, I wont say they would have WON, but i certainly think the author went a little crazy with the Japanese nationalism. First of all, Japan and America are the best of buddies. We were rivals in elementary school, had a big-ass nose-busting fight in highschool, and now we're best buddies because of it as adults. Certainly there might be elements that would want access to individuals from beyond the gate (assuming the gate in Japan is the only one now/ever) who might send in PMC to kidnap them, but honestly, Japan should have ACTUAL American agents and military personel with them right now DEFENDING them alongside the JSDF. It's a complicated dance of both joint military exercises _and_ diplomatic maneuvering. Otherwise I agree, there would be DOD and CIA officers and "advisors" alongside the JSDF. The US would likely provide a ton of fuel and supplies because maintaining a squadron of Phantoms, a fleet of helicopters, and armored fighting vehicles is _insanely_ expensive. It's clear that Yanai never bothered to calculate the sheer logistical cost of sending that much personnel and support through the gate; there's absolutely no way that the parliament would have allowed it if the US wasn't paying for it, and the US would likely demand some US observers on the ground in exchange for it.

On top of it they adjust their schedule of operation so that US spy satellites are on top of the area and they get real time information from their connection. Also Japanese forces, especially their special ops are trained by Americans so they would now beforehand what tactics they would encounter.

It's a shame they didn't quite keep to the manga for this particular scene. There was a subtle difference that made it way better. In the manga it all plays out looking petty much exactly the same, except put a bit more focus on gunfire dirrected at Rory, and a few extra lines to the gist of, "What is this!? She's too fast! Why can't we hit her!? Not a single bullet landed!?" etc. All the soldiers shocked and terrified specifically that she won't go down, etc. After the fighting stops, it's then revealed that Rory was actually shot to shit. Like... a lot. The anime kinda shows it just after this scene, but glosses over it a bit too much. I thought the manga version gave a cool nod, to the fact that the special forces and their weapons were hitting their mark just fine, and doing better against Rory than anything else ever had, but that it wasn't enough. They all thought they were missing, simply because she was eating lead without giving a shit. It made both sides seem cooler.

A CIA SAD (Special Activities Division) is not only made up of the best former Spec Ops guys from the military, but they go through further training, and all have seen and survived combat. Yeah, the JDSF had night vision and home field advantage, but it was clear these guys (the US) were goobers. Blind firing, panicking, and just sitting in one position giving exposition? your right he is ex JSDF, but he's well known for being on the right wing side of Japan's political climate, the side that is very xenophobic especially towards the US hence why he's so bias towards them (and china) the most when righting the story, it's natural in a Japanese theme story to make Japan the big good with little flaws, and the western side look very dark (just look at Fire Emblem Fates LOL), I agree, great story ruined because the writer couldn't keep his anti foreign bias and country patriotism under control, don't blame the animator's they were staying true to the source material, but do blame the source material and it's creator, he wasn't the best individual to write this type of premise and be fair to anyone not Japanese....or part of the news media but then knowing how they are, he's almost got them written right

In Real life it's actually these Special Operatives who would move around the Battlefield like Rory moves. Special Operatives are Highly Trained Specialists who are like modern day Ninjas. @@SureshotBowmen it was shown in a DIET Conference broadcasted and watched by everyone that she's over 900 year old demi-goddess, but it's unknown if these soldiers saw it. other than her age and how it doesn't apply to her, i don't think anyone else knows of her full abilities. so they wouldn't be aware of her regenerative abilities. also the soldiers, at least the US ones, were ordered to retrieve the guests, not kill them. so that's at least one reason why they didn't shoot her on site. i don't know about the other 2 country's team though, but it's implied that they had the same mission of retrieving them, so they wouldn't shoot her on site as well.

It's fucking ridiculous how Americans (or Russians or Chinese) are pissed because of this scene, and because of the nationalistic approach of Gate. Basically every American war movie glorifies the US, hell, most American movies treat the US as some sort of positive guide force for humankind, without any moral blemishes. I'd actually think using rapid fire to Semi Auto weapon's against her isn't going to cut it, you need more power to the shot's, maybe shotguns would work, not for killing her as you will fail, but staggering her or throwing her movement off since while fast she still has to get close to kill you, you can't kill her, but she can still be disabled, the other two you mentioned would likely knock her out, but still would not kill her
