Hmm Japanes self-defence forces have around 300 thousand soldiers. JSDF in Special Area use "outdated equipment" like Type 74 G Main Battle tanks or Howa Type 84 Rifles and F-4 Phantom fighter jets. Units dislocated here was only Peacekeeping force not main battle group. Can you imagine how it will look like if Imperium declare war on Japan and JSDF will use their all potential?

Bro the JSDF used the type 90 since 1988 bro Japan’s airforce is literally 3 aircraft the f15J, F2A, F35 the tech in the show is pre to early Cold War shit that has been almost completely phased out by 2005-2015. The JSDF is just a regular national army with a special name, the US basically encourages Japan to interpret the restrictions placed on them by the legislation of the surrender back in world war 2 however they want. Like hell they have starched it out so far they have a “definitely no a aircraft carrier” ship lol.

In GATE policy of JSDF is use oldest equipment you have because you don't know when and how fast you will have to withdraw. During battle of Ginza in Tokyo JSDF use AH-64 against Empire with Type 90s in manga in anime AH-1. In manga general staff explains why they don't use most modern technologies. And btw "no aircraft carrier policy" Hyuga and Izumo are literally "pocket size aircraft carriers". If we will have a luck Japanese military equipment will go on global market.
