Gates that prevent you from backtracking are often called valves and can come in many forms as well. One of the more common ones is having the player drop down from a distance they can't get back up to. Also, great video! Short and sweet!

Thanks Jay! Hah yeah, I tend to rely on drop downs quite a bit, especially when there's not a lot of gating mechanics available. I haven't heard anyone use the term valve yet, but jargon can differ from company to company! What part of the world are you working in? 🙂

@@timdoesleveldesign That's true, and I'm from the United States, but I haven't entered the field yet. I graduate and get my Game Design BS in 2 weeks. I'm excited to work on some small projects. I'm planning on joining different communities, sharing my work, and trying to team up for some game jams before looking for a full-time gig. -How's the scene out in Spain? Do you work for a company, or are you more of a freelancer / independent contractor?- EDIT: France* and Ubisoft lol, nice! Senior Level Designer must be a rewarding job. Do you still work hands on a lot, or are you more of a team manager?
