Thank you Pastor Preston. I've been looking forward to this sermon all week! We mostly prophesy to the whole church when one is called upon to do so. I love this lesson you gave! I didn't know that Christians who believe in sola scriptura don't generally include using the spiritual gifts that we can all utilize (but don't have to). I'm so grateful we can have these gifts via Holy Spirit🙏🏼

I get stamped the definition, encourage, exhort, and comfort! Forgive me if I'm wrong, but the messages God had the prophets in the Old Testament was not encouraging, exhorting, or comforting, it was if you don't do this, this will happen.

I think that given our fallibility then if we are not 100% sure we should make a disclaimer to avoid having people misconstrue the message as being from God. Just say “I think the Lord wants to tell you…” On the other hand, I believe God can still deliver His words perfectly through a prophet. There is not much difference in imperfection from the prophets in the OT and modern man. It could be a slippery slope to say that prophesying in the Holy Spirit might not result in God’s precise message since the Holy Spirit is the same today as He is when the Scriptures were written so then that could open up a whole can of worms

What about prophets who ask for money for the prophecy God has given them? Are they speaking for God or are they prostituting the gift?
