I love the concept of the Midway Station, it was such a clever way to connect the two networks and it made sense they tried to do something like that. The idea that the station was so far between both galaxies also made it so much more dangerous because it was isolated. If the show ever went into a more space scifi direction, a large space station serving as a hub for gate travel could have been so cool!

I thought it was a shame it was destroyed so soon, or it wasn't rebuilt, they could have done so much with it. We only really see it being built and destroyed, it only makes travel faster.

@@techwizsmith7963 well, I think the fact it was in the middle of literally nowhere would really hamper it being it’s own shows but it definitely could have had some episodes of shows, from each galaxy, which featured midway station in them

was thinking the same thing. something like tried to take over the hasara space station and maybe drag it to where midway station was. bc we know both the asgard and the goa`uld ships could tow things. asgard towed prometheus back to earth and we know goa`uld towed asteroids toward earth to try and destroy it. maybe something could be done whot hasara station, ofc it would take more timebut then they had more story to add then

It's funny to hear that the network didn't like the idea of taking Tayla to show her around Earth in the episode "Home." Watching that reaction would fit the popular category of addictive reaction videos in general, so any argument that it isn't as watchable or engaging as the action "sci-fi" stuff the network wanted is just objectively wrong or that addictive reaction video category wouldn't exist. It's fascinating and exciting to be able to share our own world with someone entirely new to it.

I kinda liked the connected travel after s01. the thing that balanced it (in my head anyway) was that the earth ships took a while to transit back and forth, so support might not be available THIS episode but maybe 2 episodes in the future. so they could write both types of plots, some where they big scifi battleship support, and some with more limited resources, then mix them together. Of course it was different in s04-05 when ships became more common, but I liked that too hahaha

We are about to get the younger, edgier version of SG that was parodied in the 200th episode....but with MORE stupidity.

I have the feeling that this is what SGU was going to be or end up being. So much of the potential storytelling was taken out because too much conflict in the show when I came to the crew. Outside these aspects I actually like the show and liked were they were going, but it was a bit of a Slow Burn.

I dunno, I kinda feel like a big portion of the Ancients "Cool factor" was the fact that they were so mysterious. Learning too much about them would ruin some of their appeal imo.

@@thundercricket4634 idk, I'm of the opposite opinion: mysteries are a cheap lure, knowledge is what makes everything cool. I'm basically of the opposite opinion of J. J. Abrams, never found his "mystery box" idea appealing. What makes me open a book (or a mystery box) and study is the knowledge inside, not basking in the ignorance of the mystery :) Also, my comment means: I wish there were fewer guns and war (I'd love none, actually), and more discoveries and sciency-stuff

@@un_lucio You reminded me of a fanfiction I created but never finished about the ancient altaren when they were living in their home Galaxy before the Ori took over. The show explains a very vague history of the events of the early altaren history, and it was my attempt to further explain what happened before the events of them leaving, and the explanation of their journey to the milky way and also the troubleshooting of the first Stargate design before they discovered the background microwave radiation within the cosmos, when the wiki explains the history of the altaren it explains very key points within their history and only offers a vague history of those key points. However the wiki also mentions that the altarans entire society is roughly 50 million years old. Which means there is a lot of great rich in depth detailed history of the alteran that could be told. However I don't see this ever becoming a regular show for the series, unless they want to show a history of how the altaren came to be as its own series, perhaps they end the series by showing one of the people involved in the SGC using that game tech they found on another planet to play the memories of the alteran at a specific point in history because they found a DNA strand or something like that. Or perhaps the altaren recorded their own history which could have been found in either a repository of knowledge or another version of a repository that was more like a memory bank for the altaren. Anything could exist with a culture in history that vast of 50 million years. I once theorized that the repository of knowledge functionality wasn't necessarily meant for a more developed brain, however my theory was that they had another piece of technology that was supposed to counteract with the knowledge of the repository as it was only meant to be used as temporary boost of knowledge almost like how a library works. you know when you go to a library you go there to rent information, and then that information is returned, well these are the alteran we're talking about, and we know them to be a very advanced civilization who were more science and technological based species of people. So it's entirely possible that this was normal for the device in how it worked on O'Neal, except that O'Neill didn't have the device that was meant to take the information out of his brain, so using the knowledge within his brain he decided to contact the best known species to help him with this issue that the repository left behind was in his brain.

My biggest pet peeve was if the ZPM was the be all and end of power why when Rodney was ascending did he not give them the knowledge on how to build them or why wasn't that the first things they showed them doing a search for in the database. It just became a drinking game towards the end with access to all this ancient tech still no ZPM's in production or a Eath version of one.

I'd like to add also that in the entire city of Atlantis, there was no manufacturing section for there technology. Of course the writers would probably, out of convenience, say those sections were in the damaged areas.

One thing that's always bothered me is why wasn't there a zpm factory on Atlantis? You'd think that if it's the basis for their technology, the place which was the center of their civilization would have the means to build them somewhere. Once they were fully powered by a zpm they should've been able to make more. I think I like Atlantis better than SG1 (especially the later seasons of SG1 when they sort of lost their... I don't know what), but that seems like a major oversight (albeit it's very convenient for the plot, as power struggles and zpm acquisition formed the basis of several episodes per season).

Yeah, that’s one thing that always bugged me, even if the didn’t have the facility to mass produce them, but I would have expected Atlantis to have some capability to produce ZPMs, even if only in limited quantities, even if those facilities had been destroyed beyond repair when the station was flooded, but at least it should have been addressed at some point.

I loved SG1 and still have all the dvds. But I love Atlantis even more and was absolutely crushed when it got canceled. One thing I’m glad shows don’t do anymore though is the clip show. Both Stargate shows did it and it was so disappointing to not have a new episode that week. But did I watch the clip shows all the way through? You bet I did.

Love to have seen atleast season 1 for the CityShip to spent entirely underwater, only to rise with the next season, with 3rd season being landlocked after a teleportation mishap, with 4th one revealing that it was a dormant->active volcano, using shield against erupting lava until forming a create a igneous mountain , with 5th spend adrift in space like Space:1999 before landing onto planet with a retreating ice age

Would also deliberatly introducted direct access to 3-5 ZPM's early as the 3rd episode, but also made them useless for the Expedition, at least for a while. I would have the Atlantis episode 'Hide and Seek' play as inverted mirror to the ZPM subplot of SG1's 'Zero Hour', instead of invisible bomb, its a deliberatly coated with a icky substance that works akin to those money paint packs from Bank-heist movies, making it useless until its properly cleaned again and again. The Shadow Monster would be also the main reason that these ZPM were discovered as soon as possible, as this self-sustaining substances would be a auto-immune response to utilizing or even to find the ZPMs in a conventional manner, akin to further tearing a partially open snack, to have a few bits before (partially) re-seal itself And whilest the City would contained a small dedicated area to 'clean' ANY dirty ZPMs as part of a consumable product, its due discoverring and/or fighting off the Shadow Monster that most of these equipment was damaged, if not destroyed, resulting in season one able to cannabilize most of them equipment into a crude cleaning machine

My problem (and my people's problem) with the episode with that mist is Hammond. It was amazing too see him, but... When the Atlantis mission was leaving SGC, O'Neill was already in charge. I mean, before O'Neill, it was Weir who was in charge of SGC! So seeing Hammond should have been very weird to them. Also Sheppard saying "If you were the real Hammond, you'd understand" when he never even met him.

As a die hard SG-1 fan it was kind of strange watching Atlantis after it followed the first show for the first 2 episodes because they were almost a mirror image of what was going on in the SG-1 episodes. It had me wondering if they were going to try something original or just remake SG-1. My jump the shark moment was the funeral scene with full orchestral production for Teyla's song.

I liked the episode Home! Must have been chaos on set maybe? as every character (except Teyla) had to play in character and out of (Alien) character. But it was fun, specially when McKay had a total breakdown and when Sheppard "played" along until he just could not anymore and you got it that he knew before you did sort of... I'm more of an Sci-Fi action kind of guy, but this episode was fine!
