I was thinking fibreglass too for strength and weight. Except I was thinking to use the truck hood/bonnet as the plug for the mold, as it actually has the shape Brent is looking for, albeit back to front.

I have done what you are describing. I built the bones of the roof from wood. Then I added my vinyl to my liking. Took everything apart and modified an old convertible top frame to make it work. I had turned a 53 Chevy into a convertible. It took me I think two or three months as I was only 18 at the time. I’m 75 now. lol!

i see where you're going with the roof, if i was doing it i think I'd use the frame you made cover it in mesh and fibre glass it.A lot of work but completely moldable to get the shape just right,it should be reasonably light too for taking it off and on.Whatever you do it'll look right in the end.Kep it up Brent it's rolling along nicely.I watch your channel before going out to my workshop in a morning it gives me some extra motivation .

What a challenge on getting a suitable roofline. Trial and error indeed. Very challenging indeed, but you are getting it done in a pleasing fashion. We all know this roof is just going to get better and better. We are cheering as you add each piece needed. Very exiting to watch as it comes together. You got us hanging on to each piece of roof you add. Great! 😊😊

Did a removable chop hard top. I did a very minimal frame. Basically an perimiter frame with 3 bows. Glued felt to the frame then fiberglassed the felt to have a start to my shell. Couple layers of glass to get a solid shell about 1/8th inch thick. Then I did canvas to fit it. Looked like a soft top but worked perfectly. I welded nuts in my truck body. Two allen heads in the the front 3 on the rear. Bolted on an off in like 3 minutes when it was done. Just a thought for the future.

Brent let me tell you about my experience when I didn't have some kind of brace on the top of my windshield on a rod I built out of a hillman minx . I ended replacing the glass three times before I put a top channel to brace the top of the glass. I also weirded a half by half inch to the back of the channel to give the top extra strength.

I think maybe you should try using 1/4 inch rod and make a frame that gives you the shape your after .Then maybe after you could stretch some naga hide or cavas over top and leave a flap around the edge so you can sew some velco on the outside perimeter to wrap around the frame taunt and fasten it. It will be light and easy to make a new top using the old one as template. Or if you want to get real fancy sew loops on the egde of your shin and slide bars in so you can use hog clips like upholstry on a seat. Have corisponding little bars welded on the frame to give the hog clip a home to latch on.That way you can make the windows line up with the top.Maybe sew a drip edge just above the side window. Food for thought Brent Good luck!

That whole ridge on the fender piece you were using seemed to match well with the top of the doors and the top of the bedrails you created. It almost seemed like it would have made a great "drip rail" overlapping the door glass (kind of like how you made that piece at the bottom of the doors to overlap and meet the rockers). If you went that route, you might have to adopt the "window drop" feature a lot of convertibles like my Tbird uses when I open the door and it drops the glass slightly.
