May i ask, can people volunteer for firefighters training? For example: be the person they save and such things, or they don't use other people for that?

@@Missnoemit It depends on the training and department, i think a rather small portion in the US may, but usually it is considered to be IDLH (Immediate danger to life or health) so they most likely wont.

I can attest to how durable fire helmets on. I work for a local fire department, and during training one day somebody dropped a ladder on my head, and I don't think it did anything but scratch the helmet.

Squadren 32. Some volunteer to do it. At the end of the day it isn't a paycheck to most of them (even me) they do it because they want to. Would we like to get more money yes, is it something we would quit over? Most likely not

William Masterson even though we don't actually need athletes in our lives, athletes work super hard. Becoming an athlete at the pro level is far from easy and the odds of getting to that point are very low, so I think athletes deserve the amount of money they earn.

Check and see if any of your local departments have an explorer program, it's a great step in the door. You can also do station tours or potentially even ride alongs. We're always happy to show people around but the best way is to call in advance and schedule a tour👍

Honestly what JJ said at the end - how NFL players make headlines and firefighters don't. We should have daily/weekly firefighter GoPro highlights of best rescues on the news just like Sportscenter. Would not only commend people who devote their career to saving lives, but also encourage more people to become firefighters.

Been a firefighter for coming on 12yrs. Officer for 8 of those. I'm 29 180lbs. Trust me it's not for the faint of heart. It's more mental at the end of the day when there's a life lost. You can usually recover from a sweat. My ex idolized jj watt. Here ya go Aly Ries. Least he can keep it in his boots under his own bed... Lol

Aaron Bruiser the equipment is not that heavy without the air pack on. But you don't have to have your jacket zipped up for that.

Jevon Cargile training is extremely hard and 2 hours of it drains energy out of you. You basically waist your supper on training. At my station after training we usally have a "snack" which is basically another supper.

I know my daughter gets a workout in her gear. She’s a little thing, on 4’8 and 110. All the gear her co owns was not made for petite ladies. But the lieutenant is getting ready to order all brand new gear for her! Finally. We are an all volunteer fire Co. so when ur putting that kind of money into gear and yes it’s quite expense, u make sure that the person is an asset and is gonna stick around and is an active an in good standing member of the company! Finally she won’t look and feel like Humpty Dumpty!!!
