Great video! Most amazing is the sound when the trains passes by, it really sounds like the real thing! If it was my trains, I would have governed the engines to a slightly lower speed. @paullubliner I believe you are referring to the blue the LNER Pacifics were painted in. If so than, no, Caley Blue is a bit lighter than BR's Express Blue.

There is some serious kinetic energy happening out there! Who looks after the 'safe working' aspects of what appears to be a very busy and quite complex layout? How is that managed? What safety mechanisms cover the operation of the locos? How do you prevent overspeed and a runaway train?? How do you control the locos??

Was just wondering - even though you shot this film on a nice sunny day - what happens then it rains - like how do you stop them from going rusty - do you bring all the Locos & carriages inside/undercover when not in use or do you leave just leave them out side all year round???

You can get 'O' scale live steam, 'OO/HO' live steam and many others. Also a British engineer built a 1:240 scale live steam loco as well as maybe a 1:450 scale!

How heavy are live steam trains?

+ᅚᅚ It depends on the scale of the model as well as the weight of the locomotive. Weights can be anywhere from a few pounds to a few thousand (I.e. 3 3/4" scale SRRL #24 model weighed 2216 pounds empty). To find the scale weight of a locomotive, divide the prototype's weight by the scale factor cubed.

The large ones are pretty heavy, the are more awkward though, as you have to move them with the tender attached.

comparing these to American locomotives of the same era I notice two things 1. American Locomotives are Larger and more powerful. 2. English Locomotives are far more pleasing on the Eyes what with the beautiful colors and shape of the locomotives.

so i made a live steam mallard and its fast as hell and it can pull 4 times its own weight. it nearly rolled off the tracks one time it went up on one side of the wheels and exposed the crownsheet and neary blew the boiler up
