SPOILER WARNING BELOW: Read this comment after you've finished the video I have watched the moment at 22:30 several times, and I am convinced this is a glitch. I think the game accidentally killed the wrong family member. Has anyone encountered this before? It's also strange how Caderyn of Genava (the old man) is the one who is meant to be leading the army, but it is Vellocatus' name who is shown in the end screen. Perhaps the game assigned the wrong family member to each unit of general's bodyguard?

That's so bizarre. I've been playing this game since 2005 (so I've seen plenty of bugs) and I have NEVER seen that happen before.

I've been playing this game since I was a child and I watched loads of gameplays as well and I have never seen anything like that before. Your gameplay is always ridiculously funny for some reason.

In all my years of playing Rome I have never seen that happen, and that was probably one of the worst scenarios for that glitch to occur on.

Hahaha! You hyped up Senior Drunkard's heroic charge to save the clan... and then his younger son chokes to death on beef jerky moments before it happens... That must've been an awkward explanation from his advisors...

I have never seen a glich like that in my life. Things were wacky right at the start of the battle. At 13:41 you can see the gold star next to Vellocatus' icon indicating that he's the command unit. Once the battle starts however the old man has the gold star next to his icon but Vellocatus' portrait is featured with the command icons in the righthand corner. For whatever reason the game was confused as to who was commanding that army. Very strange indeed.

Tip with the navy, if you put it in the port while waiting, the enemy ships can’t attack it. So you can keep them safe.

I'm on a brutii campaign currently and near the end. Only a handful of factions left however I've had an alliance with Thrace since the start and they've weirdly kept it and still have both their starting 2 settlements. Usually they disappear fast. They are a protectorate of the Scythians though so that might change when I attack them.

Yeah Thrace quite often is defeated quickly. At one point, like 100 turns earlier, they and Pontus had huge empires, but eventually the Brutii were too much for them

I think it should be possible to lure the last standing unit out of the town square. Take one infantry unit and attack them, then immediately pull back and when the enemy is chasing after your unit, strike with another unit to the enemy rear. That way the enemy unit will be fighting to its death and wouldn't be able to fall back to the square. Or maybe it's better to use a general unit for the luring part, because the infantry might start routing.

So, I've tried this now and I can conclusively say that infantry nor cavalry won't lure the last standing unit out of the town square. But bowmen or any other missile unit (peltasts, legionaries) will. Then it's just a matter of luring the enemy far enough so that your blocking unit can attack the enemy unit's rear and in the process block them from retreating to the square.

Holding Samarobriva and using the funds to build up and expand is a solid plan! Getting together a small force in Britain to take the rebel settlements might work out well. Also, glad to have you back to making videos! This series is looking great so far.

Thank you so much for this content! I know it's an old game, but you're one of the few who still record quality content. Definitely think hold on to Samo as long as you can - this far into the game the AI probably has stacks and stacks of troops but will have a hard time mobilizing, and if they're all (hopefully) on the other side of the map, you stand a good chance of carving out a nice empire. Can't wait for more!

I think should hold the town maybe ramp up the tax rate as high as public order allows. Then soon as any hint of reinforcements appear, destroy everything's put on very high tax rate and retreat to Britain. Maybe put some watch towers surrounding the province so you'll get an idea of when they are coming a bit further in advance.

21:00 ~ is indeed a glitch, seems to be on rtw for mobile as well. Usually happens after a unit is in combat, they afterwards just defend or attack against the air, also seems to happen around enemy bodies

That general situation actually sounds like something out of history or legend. The old drunken king tries to kill himself in a final charge only for his noble gallant son to be killed by some no name peasant fleeing the battle.

Every time I'm attacking an infantry unit with cavalry units, I attack from front and from the rear at the same time and I'm using general units for that purpose. They won't lose as many riders and those general units are replenished over a few turns automatically. Barbarian cavalry is more suitable for chasing down a fleeing infantry.

I started playing it on my phone. Although only when I'm charging as it's a mega drain on battery. It's nowhere near as good as it is on the pc but it is still fun. Only tricky bit is fighting battles as you can't atleast I can't work out how to do formations properly so I seem to just be able to say go here attack etc. Only really becomes annoying if wanting to make sure a phalanx is facing right way.
