Gaunching - History's Most BRUTAL Execution Method?

In History there have been many different execution methods deployed by different rulers, and different execution machines such as the guillotine were used. One of the most brutal was the Gaunch in which a prisoner was dropped down onto iron hooks which impaled the victim on a gallows style structure.

Reminds me when I was a kid there was a waxworks museum at King's Cross, Sydney that had a woman impaled through the belly on a big hook. It was grim. Never heard any other reference to the practice before now.

This method was used by Ottomans against Greek rebels. Nothing to do with crime. And for this, and some other monstrosities all turks were kicked out of the island after the independence. (the ones that survived)
