Gauri dashakam is sung in every kashmiri pandit household. It surprises me that people from faraway south also sing it. Shows the vastness of our dharma

Likewise, we were unaware that it was sung in Kashmir. Great to know. Thanks for posting.

On what occasions do you sing it and which other stotras do you sing? Is Soundarya lahari one of them too?

@@raviamur biggest festival is shivratri so most strotas and stuti are done in those days. Other than that navratri are big festival so everyday of navratri. There also festivals that are only among kashmiri like khichdi/yaksha amavasya, hara saptami, shishir sankranti,. Also zyeth/jyeshth ashtami is also big festival on this day devi ragnya pradurbhava took place. There is also tiku tchorum but that's limited to tikoo family(kashmiri pandits with tikoo surname)

@@raviamur shiv mahimna strotram is very popular that is sung almost everyday, indrakshi strota, panchastavi( mostly sung in kashmiri by very few people know sanskrit version nowadays it was very common before exodus), I don't remember name but there is 'jai narayan, jai purushottam', rest are mostly kashmiri bhajan. Soundarya lahiri is not very common atleast i have never heard kashmiri pandit family

This has reference to the comments by Shri Rabinder Kaul. It is immaterial for us as to who has composed this blessed piece of Gauri Daskam. It may be opportune to mention that there are three kramas i.e. systems of sadhana - Kashmir krama being one of them. So, we have to catch that thread, which belongs to us or to which we belong. And the rest will be taken care by HER.

Manoranjan Mishra, nice analogy

it is really immaterial who composed, what matters is whether we understood what composition is revealing.. it is anyways treated more of a bhakti composition and not a philosophical one. just take a bath in the devotion - but people are more interested in digging what actually is of no importance...

The philosophy presented in it is in consonance with Agheda Shiva of Kashmir than with Advaita VedAnta. That makes it doubtful as Sri Shankara's creation?
@raviamur9 жыл бұрын
I am not familiar with the Agheda Shiva tradition. Have heard of Aghora shaivaites, though. Mention of Muladhara seems to be the cause for your comment. Sri Shankara's Soundarya Lahari covers much more. It follows the Samaya school, rather than Kaula practice.

just interested to know points of difference, any specific word or line as such in the whole composition which makes it different - for advait - because Shankara has written many such compositions on the same lines .. i tried to find differences , but couldn't , it will be too helpful from you if can guide me in this

@@sunnybhat4376 The difference is the difference between the nature of Ultimate reality Nirguna-Brahaman Vs nature of Para-Shiva as ultimate reality. Where as Nirguna Brahman is Prakash (loosely consciousness as it is) and pure Saxhshi with out any Kriya. But Shiva is not Nish-Kriya alternately stated as Prakasha-Vimarshamaya. It is this Vimarshini Shakhti which later on as 7th evolute brings forth Maha-Maya. SO Advaita has 25 Tatvas and Abheda-Shiva is 37 Tatvas. The Vimarshini is the Swatantriya Shakhti of Shiva, by which he brings forth the diversity and absorbed it back in to itself.
