Another BIG advantage of the gatling plasma over the gauss minigun is ammo weight. You only need to carry a few plasma cores to have thousands of shots for your weapon, but with the gauss minigun you have to craft and carry thousands of individual, very heavy rounds, and you basically MUST run a perk card or armor set dedicated to dealing just with that weight. Gauss minigun needs a buff to compete with the gatling plasma, given how hard it is to get in comparison. I suggest an innate armor piercing effect.

One huge disadvantage Gauss Minigun has when compared to Gatling Plasma/Laser is ammo. It consumes ammo like a Minigun while crafting 2mm EC is crazy expensive. Even Ultracite 2mm EC only gets you like 260 with all ammo perks equipped, that’s slightly more than half a magazine..

Just hold a gauss shotty if you have one and join a daily op that is capture the point, chill their and teammates will reward you with like 500 per point I leave with about 1000 more ammo after a daily op

I got a really awesome roll on my first try for this weapon right after it came into the game and used it for about a month. Then I put it in my stash box and it’s been collecting dust since. It’s sad, because it really does look and feel really cool!

You can farm daily ops for ammo. I have mine Primed and have a ton of ammo.

I like the straight distant projectiles with gauss for tagging etc. I also like to blast away close targets with plasma. They both have uses.

I have anti armor with +25% aiming damage. Its pretty decent and does what it needs to do its really helped on boss fights where nobody else is doing any damage. Ammo is definitely the issue though it turns and burns through ammo, but overall I enjoy using it.

Obviously the gatling plasma does superior damage. But it feels clunky to use sometimes and its projectiles fire in a scattered pattern. I use 'em for Eviction Notice and the SBQ and other bosses. I have an AA and Aristocrats. Both primed and with +25%dmg while aiming. But it's a closer range weapon for me. Otherwise I just feel disconnected from it at times. I found myself alone at Eviction Notice the other day. Someone dropped a nuke before it started and seems everyone went to Scorched Earth. I have a Mutant Slayer's Gauss mini with +25dmg while aiming, standard barrel for range. I just got it and have it for Eviction Notice. I still can't believe it but I solo'd the event from start to finish using just the Gauss mini and Nuka Launcher. The latter for the Firestarters and distant groups of enemies in the rocks above. But mostly I used the Gauss mini. It's long range and accuracy really shined in that environment and it's laser beam like projectiles felt well targeted and connected to my adversaries. I just don't think I could have pulled it off with the gatling plasma. Didn't die once, repaired the scrubber when needed, destroyed all meat bags early on. I usually use the tri barrel but someone on reddit suggested the standard barrel for EN...and what do you know? Success. I stayed near the scrubber the entire time. Super Mutants kept coming and the Gauss mini just kept shredding 'em from near and far. Nice👌

I like how the Super mutant is sitting right in front of the West Tek sign at 7:26. I haven't tried using the Gauss Minigun since my go to weapon has been my Vampires FFR FR gatling plasma which shreds anything. It is by far the best and luckiest roll I got from murgles and I got even luckier when I found over 1000 Ultracite plasma cores just sitting in a suitcase by the Whitespring Station.

It may not be the most efficient, but the Gauss mini gun is just fun to use imo. The Gatling Plasma reload gives me issues. When the core empties, it doesn't automatically reload. I have to hit the button two or three times it seems for it to happen. Then the reload can be interrupted with a melee hit. I play on a console and it might be different on PC.

I believe it's because you have to wait for the weapon's barrel to stop spinning in order to be able to reload. So there is a small delay once you stop firing until you're able to reload the weapon.

You should test a B FFR Gauss mini cuz mine shreds! My go to during Rad rumble was my AA E Gat plasma but since the legacy purge my B FFR does insane damage and is so accurate in comparison. It’s like a laser pointer. By comparison my TS FFR FR Gat plasma fills the entire hallway with green blobs and barely hits a thing. There must be something to the slight explosive effect combined with FFR cuz it kills just like my legacy without killing myself.

I went with the gauss shotgun for a while because I did not have to get a ton of ammunition like the mini gun version, and my first reroll on it was a two shot with reduced AP cost and 25% more damage when aiming.

Grenadier lvl 5 does increase the damage output of the Gauss mini-gun, but damage is still lacking.

One point to consider is the addition of the ammo box. My main character is setup to jump between commando, rifleman, non-PA heavy, PA heavy, and now alien blaster gunslinger (😉). So for me the ability to completely store my heavy weapons and ammo when switching to my rifle or gunslinger class lets me drop unnecessary weight. Unfortunately in Bethesda’s infinite wisdom you can’t store cores in the ammo box so I have to carry them and keep batteries included equipped at max rank at all times. Switching my main heavy to a gauss mini has allowed me to drop the number of cores I carry to just a few fusion cores to power my PA. Guess this just cements the fact that I need to level up one of my alts for dedicated PA heavy and use all my UGL’s and gatplasmas on that character instead.

i have 2 shot faster firerate gauss minigun, and i prefer to use the penta barrel cuz I get a ton of FFR increase compared to damage and accuracy reduction, its already 2 shot so its kinda bad for distance, but its still good for tagging big enemies and mid to close range it melts (both enemies and ammo lol)

It’s All in the way you use it. It’s extremely limited when used at range and fires slower. Tri barrel and penta barrel is for up close and personal. It ruins the queen and titan but earl is a bit tougher. But as a brutal in your face gun earl goes down fairly fast with psychotats and a junkie gun. Also a vampires let’s me solo the imposter because of the ridiculous amount of ammunition it can hold. It also has a huge advantage in something else that the plasma no longer can but you guys already know what it is right?

Ahh yes. I weapon of Culture. I rock a B2515 one, and it has become my second main weapon. I use the Gatling Plasma for close range combat, and the Gauss for longer ranged battles.

I love both the gauss minigun and the gatling plasma and while the plasma has a lot more pros than cons to it vs. the gauss minigun, I just...don't like fighting the recoil, especially when there's something at long range for a while like the Scorchbeast Queen or things at Eviction Notice. I burn through gauss minigun ammo but it just "feels" right to shoot it, feels like how the normal minigun should be. Also the gatling plasma and gatling laser have a huge con for me which is that I reload A LOT and I have to train myself not to do that for those two weapons because I like clean inventories and seeing a dozen half-spent plasma cores just bugs me lol. Great review though! Gonna stick with gauss minigun and put standard barrel back on because I like the accuracy boost you mentioned!

Summery: Sucks to carry 10k+ 2mm EC cartridge. Not worth the Ammo cost. Use your 2mm EC cartridge on Gauss Shotty or Gauss Rifle. If you want Heavy Gun, use Plasma Caster or Gatling Laser/Plasma.

People sleep on the gat plas. Literally any roll gat plas will trump most heavy guns. You get a bloodied or aa fire rate and you have easy top tier boss dps.

Your Plasma was also two shot. Of course it has more damage lol. I’ve used most heavy weapons and my favorites come down to 3. First place is Gauss Mini. Second place is Gatling Plasma. Third place is Pepper Shaker. They are all good weapons and no matter what they do what you want them to do, kill things.

i just love that they made it precise and low recoil, it's quite literally the LAST 2 things you could ever care on a fast fire-rate heavy weapon with natural splash damage. Tho the thing that is straight up killing this weapon is the ammo cost, it is WAY too expensive for a gatling because it was originally made for sniper/rifle, it would have been better if they went on some kind of heavy charging sniper instead of yet another gatling

Idk turtle… I won’t say that it’s better than the Gatling Plasma but I rolled a near perfect Anti Armor FFR 15FR Gauss Minigun right around when they put it in the game (used to be a whole other animal when damage was still multiplicative ; D). Now I don’t use it all of the time mostly because it’s a spin up weapon and that already hurts it quite a bit in one way but against single targets that are bullet sponges it outpaces almost any other weapon I see other players using. Almost any other. I also have mine modded now with the penta barrel and a prime capacitor which was a change I made more recently and for me I think it just helps my damage output. The penta barrel with FFR is a lot of firepower and the prime cap on the penta barrel for me stat wise seemed to just help my damage pick back up a little after I swapped from using the tri barrel for so long. I don’t use it to snipe with either so you’re right that you lose range by going with higher fire rate options and that does hurt in a way but I have so many weapons I just use a different one for stuff like that. I have a different weapon for every scenario, I really need to lose a couple haha. Idk maybe I just have exactly the right roll for this weapon, I’m a little surprised and a little disappointed there was no mention of anti armor in this review, I think it really helps that damage get through, but I understand it probably takes a lot of modules and it’s always pot luck with these things. I’ve always been happy with it though. I consider it to be one of my best weapons. Never got into the gat plas personally even though it is quite strong. The Gauss Minigun also never helped me much against Earl but we just torch him with the flamer anyway.

Most efficient weapon i have come across apart from a mellee weapon is the plasma caster mine is a instagating primed and easily does about 1300 damage when hitting a lvl 100 mutant in the face youll 1 shot about 95% of everything walking around

One thing though. The Gauss Minigun lets you accurate go for headshots which is a huge damage boost. Its hard to do that with Plasma gatling. The biggest issue is still the expensive ammo. A shame since it fun and I love the sound and effects. The overal feel of the weapon is one of the most enjoyable of the whole game

I'm a gatling plasma lover (b/ffr/90), it's just great to go on a rampage melting mobs (a trail of green goo puddles is prettier than blue projectiles lol). The gauss minigun is fun but it's too hard to get ammo, I won't spend hours with a gauss shotgun in daily ops if I can spend 1 hour nuking the monongah mine to get flux to make plasma core for a whole month.

I have a B2515r gauss mini and I gotta be honest, I think it's kind of a bad gun, I expected more from it. I rarely use it now. My go to guns nowadays are the plasma caster, gatling plasma and .50 cal. Also a flamer or chainsaw for specific situations. The ammo for the gauss mini is too expensive and too heavy to carry around and the gun really feels weak.

Question: I only see the explosion damage referenced in the effects list with Prime Capacitor. When I changed the Capacitor to something else, the explosive effect line is deleted or erased from the effects of the gun. Is it a bug or did they stop making it explosive with capacitors that are not the Prime option? Same with the Rifle and Shotgun... if Primed, the explosion damage is listed... if not Primed then it seems that it does not do explosive damage. Even though the wiki states that it is explosive and even though I know that it was explosive until latest patch... I wonder if something change or if it is just a bug. Noone has been able to explain it to me. In @1:06 your weapon does not state the explosive effect with the TEsla.. and as the video was prior the update, the Prime does not list the hidden effect but now that the weapons and armors display such hidden effects... I am seeing this discrepancy... Have you heard anything on this Turtle? Important to notice than when I equipped the Demo Expert perk card I did not see any change on the damage but only with the prime capacitor installed... Maybe they changed this...

I must be missing something because I just don't see how the Gatling plasma ammo is considered cheaper than the geass minigun ammo which is literally lead and steel not to mention that ammo weight can also be a big factor for some people you can only carry so many plasma cores even with the battery is not included Perk, meanwhile the 2mm electromagnetic cartridges that the geass minigun uses are actually affected by the bandolier Park and weigh effectively nothing so you can have hundreds and hundreds of thousands of shots I personally mean anti-armor Gatling but I carry a geass minigun as my secondary / boss weapon because I can carry so much ammo for it it's good for long drawn-out fights

Allow me to correct myself here as I double checked and I'm not sure if it changed or I just didn't notice before but it seems that now 5 mm and 2mm ammo actually does have proper weight even with bandolier now but even still it is such insignificance that it would take over 25,000 rounds to take up like 60 lb of carry weight

The accuracy is mostly to do with two shot. And range: you mostly see it with distance targets, like during scorch beast queen, and some events like eviction notice.

Depending on what ammo you use. It’s amazing. ultracite is very expensive but normal ammo is real easy to get. You can get about 5000 rounds in 30 mins from ammo farms

Vampire gat plasm seems to do the same dps as bloodied Gauss mini and gat plas has the advantage of making you nearly immortal while firing it. Gauss mini sadly just seems to be a novelty weapon

I have no idea why people cap so hard when it comes to the gauss minigun. 1. It's ammo is IMMENSELY cheap to make and obtain more. 2. I know the Gatling Plasma has 500 per core. However if it wasn't for the fire rate it would actually be worse than the Gauss minigun. 3. It can now have whatever legendary effect you want now. I think you will find that with the Outpost Zero uldate the Gauss Minigun is far superior.

Ammo is expensive but with my ultracite gatling laser and gatling plasma durability still terrible even after the energy gun fix, and I don't like the flamer so I feel like it's my personal best option, and I noticed my gauss mini doesn't break half as much

Heavy weapons do not benefit from the Science perks. The only thing gauss minigun now has over the gatling plasma isthe huge explosions with Grenadier now working with it.

For heavy guns I use the nuka launcher because I’m a scum bag. It does the job on events because every one uses rifleman guns and it dosent do anything just makes it harder.

I have the Grounded Mutation + Class Freak3 to reduce energy damage to 12.5%, is this a negligible reduction? I can't easily test because removing and reapplying mutations is expensive and a pain in the a$$ :) Is Grounded even worth it?

Gatling plasma at close seems something that can be traded for melee with zero ammo usage. Gauss on the other hand for events was always better for me even in comparison to a legacy

Add demolition and all heavy gun cards plus bloodied mess and stabilized as well as crippling luck card and damage goes up considerably don't go prime ammo is cheap then. I carry this as well as the plasma gatling scorch killer. Love both but prime Gat does excellent all around damage. I will say foundations vengeance a 5 mill explosive is also very good on regular enemies. Fun In west tech.😊

Thanks for the update vid on this weapon. I already got the weapon years ago but after using it for a while I realized the amount of time you spend grinding for Raider reputation and the optimal damage the Gauss Minigun puts out does not feel justified imo. It's faster and easier to get a AA/Bloodied GP and explosive .50 Cal and STILL do amazing damage with those two alone even now.

For the first time, I do not agree with Angry Turtle's analysis. My reasoning is as follows: Gauss with explosion cards and penta barrel = more damage, penta barrel with heavy weapon cards is plenty accurate and range is good, final reason: ammo is just lead and steel. I would like to see a proper test of this weapon. I personally use the Gauss Mini gun, which I switched to from the Gatling Plasma and I find it to be loads better. The accuracy and range make it far more useful, plus it is a lot of fun and looks epic.

Carry both, use the Gauss Mini for long range engagements and use the Plasma for when things get personal. What I have found with my various builds is its always best to either carry a jack of all weapon, or two separate specialized weapons. Its why my Shotgun build also has max explosive perks for Boomstick or my M79 "Sidekick" which is how typically handle enemies out of my shotguns range. My Commando build was originally formed around my Bloody Explosive 10mm, and then my Two Shot Explosive 10mm, but I have also started carrying an Anti-Armor explosive Assault Rifle since neither 10mm is good at range. It might get swapped with a Handmade if I can find or roll a good one. My Rifle Build I carried a furius Hatchet, and now a Vampires Bowie knife, no melee perks but Vampires will heal me faster than enemies can damage me to get me out of tight spots if im caught sneaking.

I prefer my two shot ultracite Gatling laser. It is so accurate at long range. I use Gatling plasma with vampires mod. It eliminated using stimpacks for me Probably the best weapon for that mod now.

I tested a lot of different variants of heavy guns with different legendary effects and unfortunately nothing holds competition to B/FFR gatling plasma. Damn thing is just way too good in damage, fire rate and ammo efficiency. Gatling plasma is the king outside of VATS, plasma caster is the king in VATS. If only gauss minigun had larger AoE, it would be an interesting alternative for tagging and killing enemies at events. However, it doesn't worth the grind to get it.

Idk I still feel my junkies as a 1 star outperforms a bloodied one, same goes for the gauss shotgun *could be due to some rubber banding

Accuracy is fantastic, unlike the Gatling plasma which is practically unusable at 10meters or more, damage drop off and dps loss is therefore loads which is why the gauss is superior

Blue laser is nice but it's weird to do less damage than junk weapons I found when this game dropped a few years ago. I added a tri-barrel and I didn't notice any difference in damage. Needs a buff asap bc this game doesn't need more reasons for me not to play it

I agree with you when it comes to a two shot vs bloodied... I have both and the bloodied seems stronger in my opinion.. both amazing but I run bloodied alot more since getting it

I wish the gause mini had a shredder mod 😅wishfull thinking but I am not sure if I like it because it's not the best yet not tradeable...😅 why? Add more barrels for range. The rest is kinda meaningless

I’m a relatively new player, and every time I see someone with a Gauss Minigun - I get envious lol. But reading the comments on it’s downsides, I don’t feel too bothered about not having it, now. I guess it would be nice to use for fun here and there. The Gatling Plasma serves all my needs as a HG/PA user.

I'd advise getting one if you can. G Minigun was something I was always envious of as well and became my favorite after I got it. My Gat Plasma still is my most powerful weapon but Gauss mini is so satisfying to use. Once you get a good build too its still very powerful and if you're using heavy weapon perks it weighs nothing pretty much.

Vampire FFR + triple/penta barrel Gaussminigun just melts any damage reflecting bosses safely in daily ops. the VAMPIRE EFFICIENCY senconds to none in range weapon categories.

So far I have a Bloodied Hitmans and Vampires faster fire rate. I find myself using the vampires one more often especially for something like imposter sheep squatch.
