None of those are actual world records though, despite the commentator claiming so. It's a regional record that's higher than the IPF world record. Sounds weird but that's how it goes. An actual world record can only be set at world or international events, which this wasn't. So don't be confused if you look up the world records and won't find these lifts. Source: IPF Technical Rules 2024, page 39/40.

youre v confidently wrong. regional events ARE international events. europeans, asians, north americans all count towards world records. look at the world record page on ipf soon enough itll be updated lol.

@@cranberrysauce6500 If anything I'd be "confidently wrong" about this not being an international event, and yes I might be, having just inspected the invitation. Everything else though is "confidently correct", you can't set world records at non-world events, look it up in the rules, I even provided the exact page for dummies like you to read lol.

@@dannydasilva1697 U know what's funny? He didn't hold any previous/current WR, no matter if this event now changes things or not. He did set some WRs, but they had all been broken already. WRs on 24/08/15: Squats: Petterson Griffith. Bench: Cayco. Deadlift: Mitchell. Total: Hedlund. Bench only: Cayco. Look it up on the official site, goodlift. Now just as you are wrong about him having held a current WR, I might be wrong about this being no international event, I already admitted that, but it remains to be seen and it doesn't make anything that I said wrong in general :)

I never understand why the IPF only allows one American per weight class to compete at worlds. There are too many elite athletes from the USA that can't qualify and so they break records in areas that isn't as notable (NAPF isn't that known, on top of cheap camera shots and graphics), and also not eligible to go to Sheffield or The World Games despite putting up multiple world records. IPF should bring back two American athletes per class. We'd see more competition and there'd still be room for other Countries to compete at worlds.
@Lumio_913 ай бұрын
Two per weight class maybe is a bit much. But they could increase the total contingent from 8 to 12 or so.
@Konalo3 ай бұрын
@@Lumio_91 The thing is two Americans per weight class was a part of the IPF for four decades and disallowed it recently. It caused no harm. America is a dominant country for powerlifting it doesn't make sense to drop out elite athletes who are in contention for world records or an overall medal. If it was two Americans we could've seen Celine Crum (69kg) place third, Charlie Yeng (66kg) reach the podium, Christopher Perez (83kg) place third, Gavin Adin (93kg) place first or second, Michael Davis (105kg) place third, Devin Williams (120kg) place second, and Ray Williams (120+ kg) place third. A lot of people want to see Ray vs Jesus but with this rule it'll never happen. There's for sure more examples for other countries but I do not follow it.
@tobiakinpelu16273 ай бұрын
America leaves behind so many great sprinters during the Olympics as they need to place top 3 in the us trials to qualify. Are you going to say Olympics open up more spots just cause America left legit podium contenders? No It’s the world we’re talking about here. America top talents should fight for their spot nationally.
