yes, not the reason I bought my sonor, but easily affirmed. I never knew any brand name assertion from kit to kit, no interest as I know how to tune drums. Sonor, I truly enjoy my drums tone more over since I have added batter heads. The plastic heads that they came with made them sound like any other drum, the batter heads brought the full birch toms into their own.

I'm only just now discovering Gavin after someone on a Tool video suggested Porcupine Tree. Now I have found Pineapple Thief. Gavin is a sorcerer. He never seems to rush anything, his playing is precise and articulate. He compliments the rest of the band, never outplaying them or the musical piece. Pure, unmitigated genius.

There is a KZbin reaction video where the guy says "most progressive rock drummer jerk off all over the drum kit, but not this guy". It is a spot on reflection, Gavin has breadth and space in his playing that gives it depth and airiness that really shines. Such control in his playing.

Gavin Harrison to me is a combination of Simon Phillips and Jeff Porcaro. The touch, technique and melodic approach of Phillips with the serious deep pocket of Porcaro. To sound like these two merged together and so wonderful is a reason why he is one of the best players on the planet.

@@jonbongjovi1869 did you say Gavin is "too mechanical"?
@jonbongjovi1869
@jonbongjovi1869 Жыл бұрын
@@JeraCravoMyself 1 nope. i'm clearly saying LANG is too mechanical. 2 now that you mention it, Gavin is WAYYYY too mechanical for my tastes as well. (EX: take a shot every time he puts the snare EXACTLY WHERE ALL DRUM MACHINES PUT IT.) At his best, Gavin is one of my faves. But most of the time, he's phoning it in and playing basically what EVERY OTHER DRUMMER would've played. You can tell he started as a very cliche drummer, whereas Bill Bruford was breaking all the ROCK rules when he was 19 in YES. I like drummers who constantly surprise me! (If they can do that while still grooving, even better!) Hope this helps.
@jonbongjovi1869
@jonbongjovi1869 Жыл бұрын
@@JeraCravoMyself Gavin is also TOO STIFF as a human being (which makes sense if you hear his drumming) (vs Jamie Muir ha ha). Little wit. Not playful. So he's a robot even when NOT playing the drums, kinda. (Compare a few videos of KEITH MOON vs GAVIN to see what a PLAYFUL and FUN drummer looks like.) Bruford was MISCHEIVOUS and would mess with the other 4 virtuosos in YES. (As they walk out onstage for a concert, Bruford said "I'm playing all the tunes DIFFERENTLY tonite! Good luck, guys!") (He hated playing the same thing every night. Gavin seems to love it. Sigh.)
@JeraCravoMyself
@JeraCravoMyself Жыл бұрын
@@jonbongjovi1869 I agree with Lang being too technical. I also agree that Gavin is VERY technical, but he has one of the most "musical" drumming from all the super-technical drummers. I also prefer more feeling and less technique, but Gavin does hit the sweet spot IMHO. Cheers mate!
