I spent two weeks in Rio in 2017 - one week in Ipanema and then one week in Copacabana. I also took side trips to Ilha Grande and Teresopolis and liked everything. I went with a friend who has relatives in Rio and is fluent in Portuguese, but I was only able to learn a few phrases before I went, and so it was impossible to get to know people there, even though they were very friendly and seemed interested in me. I already speak German, Italian, Spanish, and a bit of French (enough to have conversations), but that did not help, and pretty much no one spoke or understood Spanish or Italian. I was able to say "Onde sanitarios" from knowing Spanish, however, and that was helpful. I would like to learn Portuguese, but I would need to take a class, and I have not found any in Los Angeles. Gay guides to Rome and Berlin would be good for me, since I'm fluent in Italian and German, but I really also want to go to Greece and Copenhagen.

Hey lars, that’s right. Unfortunately, only 5% of the Brazilian population living Brazil are able to speak in English according to the British embassy in Brazil. I think that is a big struggle for foreigners that go to the country on times that are or carnival or NYE. I am from Brazil so I am able to speak Portuguese and all my friends that went there even tho they loved a lot they all bring this struggle on the language. Thanks for your comment. I will be filming in Berlin next month from 17th to 30th. I will also be there for pride so you can expect a really good content. Rome is also on the way but I will be going there later this year . Sao Paulo is more like NY. And it has no beaches so the gay entertainment is all in parties, bars, etc. Rio is more chilled as it has lots of nature around so the parties are not as good. But people are probably nicer.
