Some people don't consider Asexual or Aromatic as a part of LGBTQ+ but they do fall into that category because it is a unconventional sexuality. I am not either but I have a few friends who have explained it to me and Its interesting and valid. As someone who is Bisexual i dont undetstand that some people in LGBTQ+ think they can gatekeep its such an open and welcome group and some people just ruin it. XD

@@itzmehDevi literally the people who think the A in LGBTQIA+ stands for ally kind of irritate me because ace and aro get erased even by the LGBTQ+ community in a similar, but often more drastic way than trans people and it's really frustrating that probably also contributed to the way that i masqueraded as a lesbian asexual rather than an aroace in an attempt fit in with the community even partially

This was actually enlightening to me. I have never felt any "attraction" to anyone, and just assumed "I'll get romantically involved with someone when I sort myself out." but really, I just don't find attraction to anyone. Family talking behind my back about me being "gay" because I'm not dating or romancing anyone made me wonder if anything was wrong with me. Turns out, no.

@@nugget9190 Definitely not defending being exclusionary itself, but I also understand how hard it is to even keep track of what the most recent form of the acronym even is unless you make it your life's work. Understanding and learning is a lot more work than just finding whatever bubble works for you and sticking to it. she got hella backlash for this video. she's actually being put on blast for this EVERYWHERE. i'm aromantic myself. as far as i know, her video gave visibility for aromantic people more than any other youtube video ever. when i first saw it, i was so happy. seeing the backlash a day later hurt so much. i believed i was a sociopath for the first 16 years of my life because i didn't know that aromantism is a thing. this also contributed to my depression. it's so fucking alienating. seeing the video made me so happy not only because i may not have to explain myself as much to everyone in the future, but also because i knew it would save so many people from what i went through. seeing the backlash, however, was the most frustrating thing i've gone through in a while. not only will the backlash cause so many people to have second guesses, self hatred and a feeling of "missing out" (very common in the community), but also further ignorance in everyone who we'll try and explain ourselves to. i'm so exhausted this is just plain stupidity

This video was really wholesome, and relatable. I'm Asexual, and I personally don't see sex as a thing to keep a relationship happy and healthy. We have hugging, and kissing and hand holding for that. I'm not romantically attracted to people I meet, I'm more attracted to their personality. Because the way I see it, someone can be the most handsome man I've ever met, but if he has a bad personality, it's a no go for me. However, if a person is attractive and they have a great personality, then that's a an added bonus. I'm glad that Jadien went into detail about Ace and Aro, because most people tend to just look at them like we're not attracted to anyone at all, we can still be attracted to people, just sometimes not sexually, we can be attracted go their personality, their kindness, their morals, their honesty, and all of the good things about that person. It's like the old saying goes, it doesn't matter what's on the outside, it's what on the inside that counts. Outer beauty is great and all, but inner beauty is what really draws me in. Great reaction, and great take on the topic!

The only thing that *might* be a mistake (and honestly I'm not even 100% sure if it *is* a mistake), is that I don't think you needed the word "their" near the end of that first sentence. Umbrella category here “Hetero-Romantic Asexual” is mine Defined as a person who has a straight orientation and willing to be in a romantic relationship maybe even get married and could have kids. I am infact married and the kid plans are in the works. My significant other understands my sexuality and is always trying to make me feel comfortable. Even though I don’t really have any… “intimate” desire I simply do it with my partner to make them happy which in turn makes me happy too 😌 I feel like an outcast both in general society and in the LGBTQ+ community for the very things Jaiden talks about. When I came out as Ace even my family didn’t understand. Some random people even called me inhuman or abnormal for not feeling that attraction towards others. It does really hurt when it’s said to your face or even online.

That bit about Aro/Ace people feeling isolated from other sexualities is really important. Not even queer people should feel like bc we're all labeled by society as "not normal," that it means we're obligated to fake blind understanding. Normalize self-and-social explorations, people! If someone's offended by you asking about their identity, they're probably in a place where they're too insecure to offer helpful explanations at that point, but there are always people who are happy to learn and explain their experiences. Stay kind and curious, everyone!

Honestly, having someone acknowledge that Aro/Ace are an actual thing is great. I've come out to my mother at least twice, and the takeaway she had (the time she acknowledged it,) was that it was an extension of my poor mental health and that I shouldn't "close myself off to love." Her concern was genuine, but it's just so frustrating. I thought I'd explained myself pretty well, but after watching this video, I think maybe the third time might be the charm.

I'm so incredibly happy that Jaiden decided to make this video. I'm Agender, Asexual and somewhere on the Aromantic spectrum, three identities/orientations that are not very well known and represented, so seeing someone - especially someone with such a big audience - make a video discussing their experience, coming out as aroace and explaining what those orientations mean? Nearly made me cry. I related to so much of what she told us from her own experience, from the whole logically analyzing people when trying to decide on a crush _(I didn't try to 'decide on' a genuine crush cause I didn't care that much, but sometimes kids would ask other kids who in the school they think is attractive or have a crush on and that's when I felt pressured to make something up because I didn't understand how crushes work),_ to the looking around every year and going ''WHY ARE NONE OF YOU ATTRACTIVE'', to the whole ''if you're interested in someone but they just want to be friends, I don't understand why people cant deal with that'', to the listening to romance songs and suddenly realizing like,,, wait people actually feel this stuff??? and even just her talking about how romance seems to be everything people talk about/how every song on the radio seems to be about that stuff.. I mean, heck, if you pause at 4:37 to read the analysis example of trying to find a potential crush, I'm pretty sure I have said this sort of analytic stuff out loud before when classmates asked me about crushes/who's attractive. Also, a small detail in the ace section that made me really happy was that she danced around the vocabulary. I'm the s##-repulsed kind of asexual, I don't want anything to do with intercourse and the topic/words make me uncomfortable as hell. I often feel silly or stupid or too sensitive for it, especially because even among Asexuals many don't have an issue w/ that stuff, so seeing her dance around it to,,, it's a small thing but it means a lot to me I do think I have some degree of romantic attraction, but it's so rare and so difficult for me to tell apart from platonic feelings and understand that it makes me anxious to give myself a precise label, so I just go by asexual, bi and arospec _(meaning 'somewhere on the aromantic spectrum')_ and call it a day. Which- on that note, since you said you don't know much about asexuality and aromanticism, it might be useful to know that when someone doesn't have sexual attraction but still has romantic attraction, instead of saying _''bisexual'', ''pansexual'', ''heterosexual'', ''homosexual''_ etc. you often see us using _''biromantic'', ''panromantic'', ''heteroromantic'', ''homoromantic''_ and so on. Might be useful to know :] Anyhow I'm rambling, point is I'm very happy that Jaiden made this video, and that the aroace community can feel a bit more represented :]

I definitely relate to this quite a bit, especially the having trouble telling if you are feeling attracted to someone romantically or just like them... I also feel like I might be on the aro spectrum to some degree, but where I'm not sure, and it's hard to tell if maybe I just feel romantic attraction differently than how it's normally portrayed in media (since most people seem to always think "intimate" attraction and romantic attraction are the same thing, so it's very often portrayed that way).

Me and my fiancee are on different parts of the aro/ace spectrum. I am demiromantic but asexual. Meaning I can feel romance but it's a slow build and I don't obsess over it. Like I love my partner and we cuddle and kiss like no tomorrow but if I went a day or month without it I would be fine. But I am asexual in the way that, sex means nothing to me. It's like if someone isn't into sports I just don't see the appeal. She is demiromantic and demisexual meaning. It takes her a bit to be attracted to anyone but once she is feeling the fireworks of "oh man I really enjoy this person and love kissing them" she wants intimacy. So how we work is. I give her what she needs when she asks. Because for me. I don't need it. Never will. And yes sometimes it can be stressful but overall we communicate so well that I don't have trouble. I remember being in high school a few years after gay marriage was passed in Massachusetts. We had a GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) club that I never went to because I didn't know what I was. The longer I went without feeling something, the more distressed I felt about ending up alone and isolated, the more being around people, gay or straight, who were focused on those newly formed aspects of their lives hurt. The internet has been a great way for aces to connect with each other and meet up and make events, because there are no asexual bars that I've heard of. It's often the first time many of us feel ok and not doomed. Jaiden Animation making a video like this is invaluable for all the baby aces out there. Look around and you'll hear stories of people googling about a lack of sexual attraction and going to the doctor, because a lack of sexual attraction (loss of libido would be a better phrasing) can be a symptom of many cancers. People getting put on medication for low libido. A big figure in the online space coming out with such a comprehensive video is going to help a lot of people understand themselves, and can be incredibly helpful as a tool when coming out to friends and family. We also have garlic bread memes, and I'm happy to break garlic bread with you. Give us a visit over on r/aaaaaaacccccccce (7a, 8c, 1e because I know counting that stuff can be annoying). I'm panro ace so when I told her I was asexual, but mentioned my girlfriend in the next sentence or so, she was really confused. So I explained that while I am sex negative, I am very capable of feeling romantic attraction. Like, people have one night stands. All the sexual attraction, non of the romantic one. So why can't there be the opposite? All the romantic attraction, and non of the sexual one. I think she understood, so I'm calling that a win!! Way too many people don't know that there is a difference between romantic and sexual attraction so I was really happy that someone with her reach spoke up about it!! Let's call them "adult illustrations" of her cartoon avatar, even though she has said many times that it made her uncomfortable, FOR YEARS.

What really enlightened me about the diversity in the ace community was one of those vids w a handful of people that stand on a side (strongly agree/disagree) when asked a question about being ace and they were really open about explaining how they did or didn’t feel about things. Like most things aro and ace r a spectrum and it was enlightening to learn that. This is the side of KZbin that I really love 💜💜

As someone who’s aroace I appreciate how you reacted to this! A lot of the time when coming out to someone who doesn’t know what asexuality or aromanticism is we often get ‘are you sure’s, ‘you haven’t met the right one’ or ‘you’re too young to know’ (the latter is mainly directed at young aces/aros like myself) or even just straight up denial and refusal to accept it. So I appreciate the ‘ooo what’s that?’ attitude and willingness to learn you’ve got!

As an aro ace person, this video makes me really happy! I’m so glad that you have an open and accepting mind when it comes to this stuff, because a lot of people in my life (such as my parents) don’t. This was really a breath of fresh air. So many people refuse to listen to those who come out as aromatic or asexual, especially younger people, because they claim that they’re not experienced enough to know. Like, okay, so parents don’t bat an eye when their 6-year-old gets a “boyfriend” or “girlfriend,” but when someone claims that they DON’T want one, then it’s suddenly so unbelievable? Alright lol. Anyway, my point is, thank you so much for the support and validation. It means a lot!

How I kinda understood was that human viewed romantic and platonic love as existing entities, instead of two classifications of hugely variant types of human connection. Basically you wouldn’t find romantic love or platonic love in the wild, we just took the overall idea of love and made boxes and designated specifics emotions and actions to those boxes. This is coming from an aro person, it’s just how I was able to understand for me

There’s also some people who are aplatonic or loveless. Which means they don’t have even the “squish” (the butterflies in your stomach) for friends or for romance possibilities. For example I get butterflies when I want someone to be my friend. They are not sociopaths or anything, they just show their support and want to connect in varying ways. I’m not aplatonic or loveless but I just think they should be included in the convo

I had a very similar journey to Jaiden. Super clinical understanding of things and a logic-based lock-step understanding of how relationships progress. The first time I was confronted with someone's feelings, it's like my brain came to a screeching halt. I couldn't comprehend how the person was feeling romantic attraction before the "expected timeline point". Again. Total logic understanding. It was quite confusing.

I'm asexual, gray-romantic (meaning finding someone I'm romantically attracted to is about as likely as finding a unicorn), and I thought she did a great job explaining both Asexual and Aromantic since I'm pretty much primarily Aromantic myself. Can confirm- past 'crushes' were actually squishes in that I was platonically attracted to them and wanted to spend time with them, but had no interest in a romantic relationship. I have also gone along with multiple romantic relationships because it was 'what you do' and I have broken several hearts along the way to discovering all of this about myself. Personally, I'm sex-positive which has contributed to the broken hearts and I've had to learn to avoid romantic relationships with people I'm not actually romantically attracted to, yet I still seek out those relationships because I eventually want it with someone (romantic attraction has only happened once for me). Anywho- I rate her video 10/10 on being educational and fun to watch

As an asexual person, the jaiden animation video made me really happy to see and I was so glad that she made the video for spreading the education. I've explained asexuality to a fairly small number of people (mostly just the guys who have expressed interest... usually an awkward conversation) and literally none of them have ever heard of it. I mostly got responses like "You'll find the right person someday" "how do you know you don't like it if you've never tried it?" I even got from one guy "well if you ever change your mind you can hit me up" and like, he clearly hadn't listened to a word I just said 😒 but yeah so glad to see the knowledge spread, and I'm really excited for the people who may get a better understanding of their own sexuality because of it!

I'm so proud of Jadien fir coming out, I honestly was ecstatic at the news. I am an Aromatic Asexual as well and had found nearly no one who was at least on the one of spectrums. It was also rare to see those who know about them. (Asexual) Ace is the most known of the two but it's still not well known. Another very rare tern is oriented aroace. It means your on the spectrum of both aro and ace but you can still feel one/both of them partially. You don't have to use any label but you can use if you'd like.

I've personally seen how society and especially medical personnel treat aro and ace folks like they are broken or defective in some way because of their romantic and sexual orientation. Folks who tend to exclude the aro and ace community from the greater LGBTQIA+ community because their orientation doesn't stand out in a crowd often have a very mistaken presumption that aro and ace folks don't face any challenges. Being aro or ace is often conflated with chastity or some other voluntary choice. It isn't a choice. It's their orientation... who they are attracted to romantically and/or sexually... and they do NOT get treated as "normal" because of it. The reality is that aro and ace people face being pathologized and socially rejected in all sorts of ways. Someone very close to me was pressured into going through hormone level testing and psychotherapy before their physicians finally just accepted that they're ace. I've seen aro people get called horrible things by people who presume sexual intimacy means romantic attraction. I've seen ace folks get trashed for "not putting out". Romance and sexuality are very strong social expectations in our society. It can be pretty damned isolating not fitting in. Most people are more willing to accept that you simply romantic love or desire someone *different* (they might disapprove, but it's a less alien notion to them than not feeling it at all) rather than they are willing to accept the notion that someone simply feels no romantic love or desire for anyone at all. Ace/aro might have the ability to fly a bit under the radar at first blush like bi and pan folks do but they definitely face challenges and rejection due to their orientation and absolutely deserve respect and acceptance from the rest of the LGBTQIA+ community. If you can't imagine what it's like to be aro or ace and you happen to have a binary sexual orientation (straight or gay), just imagine feeling the level of attraction you feel towards the gender that does not attract you, only towards everyone. It's like being straight in a world full of your own gender when almost everyone else is gay and finding love and nookie. That's not a perfect comparison but at least it's a way to imagine the experience.

Yay! As a fellow JoesSings fan, Jaiden fan, Aro/Ace, and artist, I'm thrilled you loved such a wholesome and beautifully articulated video. And this is tricky stuff to react to without seeming...pandering, or uncertain, or coming off as ignorant, but the level of support and positivity you bring to your channel really encourages respectful discourse. Even if you feel like you're just nodding and saying yes to everything, that unquestioning support is so rare and valued, and can do wonders for building the confidence to continue the conversation. So thanks for that as always, Joey! Keep being awesome, and sending that same love and support your way! (Also, you're "Aha!" moment for your asexual(?) ex was really cute.)

I am gay but I don't feel romantic/sexual attraction SUPER often, so it's nice to see representation for those of us who fall outside the expected patterns of romance! I've never been in a serious relationship and I'm almost out of college, but aside from a few times after watching a very sappy romance movie, I've never felt super lonely because of that. I know that a relationship is something I'd like, but there have only been a handful of guys in my life that I've really wanted to pursue, and even then it wasn't an intense crush for any but one of them. I consider myself demiromantic because of this, but that's a debated label since some people say it's normal to not feel romantic attraction until you know a person... Which is true to a certain extent but it seems like everyone around me is getting crushes WAY more often than I am, so who knows.

This was so wholesome 🥺 as an aro/ace person, the queer community can sometimes feel exclusive to us. It’s so refreshing to see someone come into it ready to learn and enthusiastic about it and applying it to real life! The bar shouldn’t be that low but sadly I’ve seen people in comments related to Jaiden say aro/ace people sound like “sociopaths (derogatory)” for not feeling attraction. And that’s a gut punch sometimes. Especially since a lot of the people making those comments are showing their lack of empathy by not thinking how isolating it can be to be the only one you know who’s like this. My own (mostly queer) friends in middle school would pester me about crushes until I was red in the face and (though they didn’t know it) about to cry because they thought I HAD to have a crush, then they would use my “blush” as proof I was hiding something. One of them even told one of my platonic guy friends that I liked him because they’d all decided that I had a crush on him. It was kinda like constantly being gaslit into thinking I wanted a relationship, and I would stay up hyperanalyzing my relationships to see if I’d missed out on some secret romantic feelings I had. Once I got older and learned about aro/ace as an identity, I became much more confident and my relationships became way deeper because I’d accepted that I didn’t need to hold our emotional resources for a future partner. Then there are even some people in the queer community who will act like we’re less worthy of being queer because we “pass” as straight. And that’s just me as a vanilla aro/ace, some other ace/ace-spectrum orientations are even more scrutinized. There are a lot of people who don’t realize the emotional trauma that can come with being aro/ace or the sometimes dangerous positions it puts us in, because no one hurts us KNOWING they’re doing it for our orientation. I’ve heard horror stories of aro people getting prescribed drugs they don’t need because psychiatrists think they’re depressed for not wanting romance, or of ace people being pressured into sex by partners who want to “fix” them. Not to mention the heaps of unsolicited medical advice (like about hormones) and questions into your sex life and history.

As someone who is ace, I was very happy when I saw Jayden's video. (tho I do wonder if I'm actually aro too, because I did relate a LOT to what she described in the video. However... I think it's just that the lack of sexual attraction makes romantic attraction slightly different from how it's usually portrayed in media. It's also possible that I just feel it to a lesser extent or less often)
