China's gay shock therapy: It's over 15 years since the Chinese Psychiatric Association stopped classifying homosexuality as a mental illness yet some hospitals in China continue to claim they can 'cure' gay people. There's no scientific basis for their claims yet they offer procedures that even include painful electric shock treatment.
Shaunaugh Connaire went to Beijing to meet the activists working to expose what's happening in these hospitals.

the "racist" card is used too haphazardly; it is deologically driven and devoid of logic. 1. Which dialect requires a subtitle is subjective to personal experience and target audience. (eg. I need subtitles for Scottish English but not for Indian English. This is merely because I've had greater exposure to Indian English). 2. Bias towards ethnic prosody is not equivalent to bias against "race." [ps. there is no such thing as the Chinese race. There is the Han ethnicity but China is extremely diverse in ancestry] 3. The inconsistency of subtitles could be due to chance. Did you run the statistics for it? If you are just basing on your emotions and comparing 2-3 videos from your memory, your claim carries no weight.

To lessen the blame using "whataboutism" is just wrong -- the people in the video worked very hard and avoided police just to produce this video for us. I found the most sickening part of this to be the part where the nurse or senior whoever started explaining how electroshocking "worked". It's sickening because she was right. Young people in China are more open to LGBT. However, the ideas of the older generations are really hard to change. I really hope that it will be better in the near future. Everyone has the right to love and be happy!

Rodrigo Ameixa - two points then: 1) where does moral law come from? Regarding homosexuality, one could argue against it in a utilitarian fashion (while murder also has a useful side, i.e. reduction of population); 2) many gay friends I know said they became gay by e.g. watching gay porn when young; in short, I am not at all convinced of the "genetic" argument, because, it is, like murderous mindset, an extremely complicated thing;

Omg when they had the guy on his stomach and then on his head I got teary eyed. It made me think of all the past gay people who actually thought this would fix them as they endured the excruciating pain with no results. It's so so sad to do this to human beings and make them feel like they are defective in some way.

Imagine the amount of risk they took as a group of being imprisoned or arrested by the police for exposing the amount of corruption there is in both the government in a way and as well as the close-mindedness of the people who are absolutely disrespectful and neglectful of the LGBT community just to film this one video to expose us to more awareness of this issue. Jeesh, this is the 21 century or something already and jeebus, we people of a nation and of a planet really needs to be more open-minded and United.
