Probably the fact that the kid was gay played a role, and happily it did. A man that struggled with his sexuality and the societal norms and acceptance can only be very sensitive to a 13 year old boy also struggling. Thumbs up to the state that allowed the adoption of a male teenager to 2 gay men.

My dad wasn't supportive at first. About 10 years ago, my mom was having surgery & my dad stayed at my apartment (10 miles from hospital). One night, we went out for a bite to eat & I had offered to buy him a beer. We walked out of the restaurant & I said lets go here (bar next door) then he asked me "What bar do you go to?" I told him that he didn't want to go there but he insisted so we went. had a few drinks then drove back to my apartment. I called my mom & she didn't believe me at first lol till I put him on the phone.

10seconds in & I already love their relationship. God this made me miss my dad so much, their fun banter relationship reminds me so much of the relationship my dad & I had. I know this is a bit off topic but please hear what I’m about to say & heed my advice... If your dad is still alive PLEASE cherish those moments because some of us don’t get to have those moments anymore wether that means your father passing or just not being in your life, I myself have both sides, the father who I considered my dad (step dad, raised me since I was 2) went from healthy to dead in 24hrs a week before Christmas 6yrs ago (he was only 60) & my bio father who I don’t consider my dad at all because he’s a lying cheating ignorant fuck is still alive, anytime I have a chance to tell people to appreciate their time with their parents I do, especially if y’all are on good terms because life’s not fair & you never know what moment will be your last.

I am a stepdad and I love my boys more than anything! They also love me back. If there is one thing I have taught them that stuck was for them to be themselves, to be comfortable in their own skin. I grew up in rural Wyoming. That was rough. However, over the years, I have been able to change the attitudes of many in my community who used to gay bash. Now when a stranger passes through and decides they are going to harass one of the gays in town nearly the entire town comes to the rescue!! I think that is because I always walked with my head held high and with a dash of makeup even. I only had to fight once when came out on top I picked the other guy up and with tears in my eyes I apologized and then asked the entire crowd to never put me in that situation again. I have never has an issue sense.
