There was this dad who I saw on the news who went to LGBT events and held a sign saying that if anyones parents weren't part of their lives, they could come get a hug from a dad who loved them. He said he gave out hundreds of hugs at a single event, and from some of the videos, you could see so many people were so emotional to have a parent to hug them and love them and it was a horrible mixture of heartbreaking that so many people's parents desert them when they realize there is a quality of their child that the parents disapprove of (one that the child has no control over) and heartwarming that this kind man would go to these events and be a parent to total strangers who needed a hug from a parent

My 14 yr old recently came to the living room and began pacing and told me she had something to tell me and then burst into tears after saying “I’m gay and I am so afraid of what you will think of me “ I got up, held her tight and said “that’s what you are so worried about? I have known that for years. You are my daughter and you were born this way and you were born perfect” “ I don’t care who you love, all that I care about is that you are happy and treated right. I will never judge you for being you. You are perfect and I am so proud of you for trusting me and being true to you “. She wanted to tell her Dad, my husband, herself. I was worried because I knew, a mother knows and he had been in denial of it. He was in her room a long time and was very nonchalant about their talk but seemed completely ok and normal. The. Next day he came home and was holding a rainbow cake of my daughters favorite flavor. He called her downstairs and I asked what the cake was for and he said “we had to have cake to celebrate Alyssa. It’s not every day that she comes out, we had to celebrate” I was so proud of him and his support to her, I burst into happy tears. LOVE YOUR CHILDREN REGARDLESS!

Wow- it's all I can say. Wow. I like to think that my Mom and Dad would've handled my Marriage if we had ever done so. Instead they invited my guy into our family and his did the exact same with me. We never even thought about marriage. It just wasn't in our generation. However we've been devoted to each other for the last 32 years and neither of us is going anywhere. May God bless them and their families as richly as He blessed ours...Thank you for sharing that with us.

Never cried at a wedding before today... I know very little about the gay community or gay marriage, but hope if my daughter grows up and takes that path, that I handle it half as well as his father has. My hat is off to you sir. That is a true and loving father and a man to look up to.
@NewZman235 жыл бұрын
If your daughter is gay, I'm sure you will love her no less than if she was straight. But it is not a "path to choose" it is a path that is already chosen (by God) from birth. A person doesn't choose to be gay any more than a person chooses the colour of their hair when born. It is just the way they are. It is how God made them. The choice is for the family and friends of the gay person as to whether they accept the gay person first as a human being and then as the way they were born - straight , gay, disabled, blind or sighted, blonde-haired, red-haired, big ears, large nose, small nose, tall or short, blue eyes or black eyes. And i think you are the kind of person who accepts a person as God made them, not as some other people in our society say we must behave and react to someone who is different to yourself. :-)
@HalfShelli5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, @NewZMan - I was really concerned about the "if she takes that path" language as well. You gave a great response! So, Dirty Blond, now you can say that you know a little more about the gay community than you did beforehand! Cheers!
@lisarobinson42385 жыл бұрын
@@HalfShelli I have to just say that I agree with everything said other than that people are made by god! Our daughters and sons and all people are made BY THEIR PARENTS - if you want to imagine they are made otherwise - eg by a god - then fine. But that is simply a/your belief - and it is NOT a fact. Which is why I object to people stating it as if it is a fact. I respect that you have your religion and your beliefs. But that is what they are - they are NOT facts.
