I have very little electrical experience which is why I’m here on KZbin. In my “how to” search I’ve become frustrated as most videos have been simply “here’s my setup”. You walked through everything in a comfortable pace and with comprehensive explanations. I actually understand now and feel much more comfortable proceeding when I start my project. Thank you.

Glad I could help. I am actually a teacher in my day job. My videos are exactly how I teach my classes.

Thank you for going step by step and showing exactly which line goes to what and specifically adding what type of wire. Most videos will show you but not explain what is going on. I am a very visual learner and I learned more from yours about how to set up a 12v system. I know how the confidence to go out and try mine. Thank you again!!!

I like how you show how it all works and how you have it hooked up. Thanks!

Thanks for watching John. Keep checking in, I am actually redoing that wiring and making another video to explain it all even better. Good luck with your build.

Nice job GB!! Your trailer is gonna be 10x better than one of those manufactured RVs. Thanks TM

Thanks for the step-by step wiring! I'm still researching my trailer build and really appreciate the individual videos. Like mentioned below, many videos cover everything so fast and not as detailed. Thanks again for sharing.

I really love your videos .... so informative! I have a question..the plug you use for the “switch” from shore to battery, what is the size of that cable and plug ... and I am assuming that you directly connected that to the outlets on either end? Thanks for your videos!

Great info! How close do the batteries have to be to the rest of the set up?
@FakeLegGreg3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I always try to keep all the cables and wires as short as possible. More wire is more resistance. Good luck with your project.

I really like your set up. A couple of questions, I have a 7x14 trailer and I have 2- 12V batteries and 2- 170W solar panels making it a total of 340W with a 1500 inverter, actually the same one you have. Should that be enough juice to run a small water pump and an AC unit that I am installing from the roof for dry camping?
@FakeLegGreg4 жыл бұрын
That will run the water pump easily. It will not run the AC at all. We don't even try to run our AC off of our batteries. It's is not impossible to do but it takes a lot more battery than I have to run AC. We do run AC when we are hooked up to 30 amp shore power.

Nice build! Question: did you put anything between the battery bank and the load to protect the batteries by cutting off the load when they reach 11 volts or whatever your cut-off threshold is? As a ham radio operator I totally killed a 20 amp/hour AGM battery during a power outage. I wasn't home to shut down the load. While I was able to charge it again, it would die after 15 minutes so really, it never held a charge ever again. Cheers!

I don't have anything like that. Thanks for the suggestion.

GB I am very confused I hope you can help me. I am rebuilding a 73' Monterey Travel Trailer and I am going to start the electrical. I want to install shore power and of course battery power. I will add in solar later. My question is once the shore power is installed is there a way to run everything off that if you have hook ups, AC and DC power? Or do you have to switch your connections over to the Inverter? Is there a way it all can connect together AC and DC power switch to and from Shore power to Battery? I hope this makes sense.
@FakeLegGreg5 жыл бұрын
Hey Juan. When we are plugged into shore power everything is running off of shore power except the 12 volt roof vent. While plugged in, if we didn't have solar panels, we could plug in a battery charger to keep the batteries charged. When we are on battery power everything runs just on battery power, the inverter. We do have plug ins inside that we switch when we change power supplies. Take a look at part 9 and 10 of our build for more info. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2PdlKd9pKaFbJI&t kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2TanHWqnbeepZI

Question. Why did you use 150watt breaker? Same goes for the 40watt breakers?
@FakeLegGreg4 жыл бұрын
They are 150 amp and 40 amp breakers. The breakers are sized for the wires and load expected.
@DesignBuildFixReview6 жыл бұрын
So if you want to run battery power until 50% half life, how do you know when you get to that point? does the solar charger keep a running total?
@FakeLegGreg6 жыл бұрын
Yes, the solar controller monitors that but not in percent. It keeps tabs on volts. There are lots of articles about volts vs %. You might take a look at this one. www.energymatters.com.au/components/battery-voltage-discharge/

Thanks for warching Gerry. As with anything, there are many different ways of making battery cables. This way works for me. Your mileage may vary. Good luck.
