eh. I run a few of them on my short boys. I will say of you got some weight to you, itll be in a better eye line when prone. But if you're a skinnier dude without the large chest, You will definitely prop yourself up awkwardly. Don't forget people shooting with carry handles and top mount acogs. Its nothing new, just a nice redesign for the laser users.

well i tried 2.21 from prone and honestly: it sucks. it is a 100% cqb setup. ive gone with 1.93 = eotech xps on unity riser and thats works great standing and prone. its the new lower 3rd for me on the 16 inch can-do-all rifle. 2.21 and higher will be on my next one, probably a 10,5 300blk.

We need more parents to teach their kids how to safely handle a firearm and to understand what dangers and protections it provides. @RamAlambaDingDong
@RamAlambaDingDong 11 ай бұрын

@griffey11
@griffey11 11 ай бұрын
Passive/active aiming is a term for when you're using NVGs. Active means you're using the laser to aim, passive means you're using the dot in your optic with your night vision to aim. It's easier to see the dot through your night vision if it's slightly raised. Keep in mind the higher your dot/laser the greater height over bore you'll have, which means you really need to learn your holds for your specific zero. Let me know if you have more questions
@jakerrush
@jakerrush 11 ай бұрын
Passive is aiming through the dot with night vision. Active is aiming with the laser. As for raising the laser- it gets the laser over your thumb. Most people put their lasers at the end of their rail but that gets heavy pretty easily. The gun feels much better balanced with the laser closer to the receiver but the problem is that if you turn that laser on with a c-clamp grip then your thumb blocks the laser and illuminator. By raising it up with the hydra (or other products like the hrf skiff) you can get the laser close to the receiver for weight balance and not have to worry about your thumb blocking the laser when using a c-clamp grip.
@LRRPFco52

There used to be an ARMS dual-level carry handle mount that did the same thing. CAG had it solved with integrated push-buttons in a modified A2 VFG with short wires to your PEQ and SF, but that didn't facilitate support hand wrap on the handguard. They started doing 12"+ float tubes in the early 1990s and taught Ranger NCOs during Range 19 SOT the forward handguard grip with index finger naturally pointing on their M16A2s. Pressure switches have always been an afterthought and until in the past 7-10yrs, they were cobbled into position by the shooter with inner tube sections, Velcro, zip-ties, elastics, and tape. I still don't like where we're at in these solutions, but we've come a long way. If you go back to an old school 12" free float tube with the LAM in a more rear position, and put the CAG VFG push buttons up higher on the grip, it's a lot better than forward-mounted LAMs in terms of balance.
@jakerrush
@jakerrush 11 ай бұрын
@@LRRPFco52 yes, its better in terms of balance but that necessitates a 12.5"+ barrel. 11.5 is one of the most common SBR lengths and isn't going anywhere and it normally means a 10-10.75" rail. Furthermore, putting the button in the group doesn't solve anything because it still modifies your grip. Now you have to go away from the vastly superior C-clamp grip to the old broomstick method that just doesn't work as well. The whole point of these mounts like the hydra and the skiff is to allow you to use the gun you like and the grip you like without having to modify either. It makes your equipment work around you rather than making you work around your equipment.

If you index the buttstock toe higher on your chest, you bring the carbine up and you have your sight picture with no head movement at all. If you want to see an early 1990s-2000s JSOC configuration that was popular, look at how a lot of guys used the old "CAR-15" cheek piece on the standard Fiberlite stock, with a rail mounted in the carry handle. It gives you an excellent cheek weld, and impossible to lose sight picture through the Aimpoint or Eotech. Biggest disadvantage was if you collapsed the stock more than 1 position in, you couldn't fully retract the charge handle. Sniper Troop guys used them with 12" float tubes, Japanese 1.25-4x Microdots, AIM-1s and PEQ-2As, bipods, Ops Inc suppressors, then later the KAC cans on select barrels installed by Unit armorers. Dam Neck guys saw those and had their armorers do similar set ups. The rifle length float tubes with reflex suppressor sniper carbines are probably the coolest, most unique AR-15 variant ever fielded.
