Follow the Green Bay Route end to end! GBW train No. 2 departs Wisconsin Rapids, WI, stopping to work at Plover before rolling through potato patches toward the highest point on the GBW. Engineer Frank Fitzgerald contrasts the worst and best track on the GBW, from marshy roadbed to welded rail.

The crews that worked this RR were second to no one . In a class by themselves!

They knew their territories and they knew their jobs. All part of being a small, tight knit railroad. RR

Those employees were dangerous and a risk to everyone. No real railroader in the 21st Century would perform a drop.

Glad you are back with the GBW series. I still have my Centuries of the Northwoods and Extra 6706 VHS. Those were the very first video's I ever bought. 37 years ago!

Thanks for being with us since the beginning. It is hard to believe that was so long ago. It seems like only yesterday. RR

Dropping cars is dangerous. That's why no one does that anymore.

@@pablohernandez9405 It's not dangerous with a skilled crew that knows their limits. I personally have pulled it off dozens of times during my career. Most of today's crews lack the skill to even attempt it. RR

Hi. Thanks for ALL GBW videos; I knew nothing of prior, and think I started first with the suggested (by YT algorithm?) rail fan excursion followed by watching all or most of the GBW series. Fun to follow along via aerial map perspective as well parachuting down to street view (where available) to see the changes from 92-93. I say it’s fun to follow along but at the same trying not to feel bad for all involved when following along and finding present day aerial imagery of the former WC and GBW yards in Green Bay that are now just grass and dirt, or the now missing depots along the route, or tracks removed etc-the fate of so many railroads. Did most employees lateral with the merger? Did the ALCO’s make the transition too? RIP Michael Geurts. I enjoyed the employee interviews. A new rr bridge over the Wisconsin River in Wisconsin Rapids was built to replace the old one as noted in one video. Is the huge paper mill on the west side of the bridge operational? It looks ginormous and sprawls north and south of that crossing but it appeared as tho just a couple of vehicles parked as per aerial imagery? Anyway, very interesting videos, many thanks, n best wishes. Cheers

Most, if not all GBW employees went to WC. The Alcos did not make the transition with one exception. RS27 #318 made on trip to Chicago in full GBW paint! I don't know the status of the paper mills. Thank for the comments! RR
