Went to the Maratona last year for the first time, completed the long course in 6h30mins, and LOVED it. This year went again although I had an injured ankle and should've probably rested. Next year I'll go again, and I'll probably try to go every year, regardless of the suffering and endless climbing - because Maratona is really *that* special.
@AdiGaskell6 жыл бұрын
The Pordoi is always my favourite. It's the 2nd climb so not only have you warmed up, but the field has thinned out a bit so you can get into a nice tempo and just enjoy the climb.

Global Cycling Network - Passo Giau is my favorite, because it’s the hardest! (I like to suffer when I pay for it...) The environment is breathtaking, the event one of the best!
@jeffdavis58416 жыл бұрын
Thanks for posting! I rode the Maratona in 2007. Still the BEST single day ride I've ever done. Well worth the trip from Ashland, OR USA!! The scenery in the Alta Badia region is just stunning. As to my favorite climb???...hard to say...my favorite decent was down Passo Valparola to San Cassiano and La Villa and then the run in to the finish in Corvara. Anyone that is a serious cyclist needs to make sure this ride is on their bucket list...you will not be sorry and will have the memory of a special day for a lifetime. So start saving, stop making excuses, start training and GO ride the Maratona. And if you don't want to actually ride the event you can still go to the Alta Badia region and ride all the climbs at your leisure, enjoy some incredible scenery and the hospitality of the wonderful people of the region.

The best thing would be standing next to Emma at the start line and having a quick chat, the worst thing would be standing next to Emma at the start line knowing that after the first ten meters of the first climb she would just dance away up the climb and my jaw would drop knowing there is absolutely nothing I could do short of tying an anchor to her seat post to prevent it. Great job Chris, keeping with that pint size climbing machine is no mean feat, you're descending skills did you proud. Awesome job to all involved. Some day I will do a ride like this, I can taste the challenge.

And the lesson I draw is ... a hard ride is a hard ride no matter if it takes 4 hours or 10. The "duel" Emma and Chris had would be duplicated many hours down the road by my girlfriend and I. And we would have the same fun, the same exertion, the same pain and the same sense of fulfilment at the end ... just slower and (in my case) less photogenic. Great video, guys.

Omg, amazing vid! I think that aero orbea/deep wheels bike set up was bit to heavy for so much climbing. Great job guys!
@gcn6 жыл бұрын
The Orbea is so light the aero wheels are the only thing keeping it from blowing away!
@danfuerthgillis44836 жыл бұрын
easyx9mm lol my 14 kg road bike is already stupidly light enough to climb those mountains even with its basic 48/38 x 14/28 Freewheel, speed will be slower but if you need a 6.8 kg bike to get to the top of those mountains perhaps rethink cycling while you work on your legs.
@easyx9mm6 жыл бұрын
Danfuerth Gillis I guess u should tell this to entire pro tour peloton, they should all re-think their cycling lol. What I was saying, noticeably Chris was struggling to get over climbs vs Emma. So lighter bike for sure would help. But if u read his response, his bike is already light. Our biggest hill in Florida is a bridge over body of water, I love cycling on what ever level it is. I hope u do too. Cheers!
@danfuerthgillis44836 жыл бұрын
The issue I have with Pro Cycling is the bike weights are way too low. There is ZERO and I really mean ZERO requirements for needing a 6.8 kg bike for even the Tour de France or the Giro. UCI wants faster races in order to sell the Cycling Sport to the Sponsors and lighter bikes is the only way to accomplish this. You are never, even on a 6.8 kg bike hitting 50 km hr when you have 25 km hr head Winds and 30 km hr Cross winds that is just not going to happen. I believe this is why UCI avoids a Major Canadian Tour due to our Hourly Changing Weather. Around the Great Lakes there is always massive Wind patterns so any Race is going to be a challenge and hitting 50 km hr is not going to happen top is 42 km hr with those conditions and you need Track Style Legs to pull it off. No Current Pro would want to ride around Canada for 3 weeks with those Weather Conditions, Wind , 35 C with 90% Humidity for 3 weeks straight!! LOL. I am originally from Southern Europe and From March till August it is all Dry Heat barely any Humidity and 5 to 10 km hr winds. I would be UCI to change the Rules for Safety as a 8 Kg Carbon frame is going to have more layers than a 1 kg frame . 10 Kg should not pose any challenge to any pro Cyclist. At 14 kg my Alloy Road bike is light enough already, but on my 7.8 kg Carbon bike it feels like a Joke riding it as the legs do not get a challenge.
@MrBJPitt6 жыл бұрын
