As a Dane, I'm not sure who I prefer to win, but it would definitely be cool if Vingegaard decides to ride for Sepp on stage 17 tomorrow, to thank him for all of his help. It might even be the smartest move for Vingegaard personally, as he would gain great popularity, as well as Sepps eternal loyalty, and he would go down in history as one of the most selfless riders (he also waited for Pogacar when he crashed in one of the most important stages of the 2022 TDF).

Some will say that Vingegaard attacked Kuss. However, Vingegaard was also protecting the podium for Jumbo by distancing Ayuso, who is now a minute behind third place. Part of this strategy also provides insurance in the case that something happens to Kuss. Jumbo is in a better place the further ahead Vingegaard and Roflic are. This late attack also did nothing to harm Kuss against their rivals. I don't imagine Kuss wants to be gifted a grand tour. He is being protected from attacks by the other teams, but if he doesn't have the legs to distance his rivals on his own, then he perhaps wouldn't be the rightful winner. I really like Sepp, and it would be a nice narrative, but I don't believe that he is the best rider in this race. He's had the glory of wearing red for several days, and he can be proud of that. However, if he wants to win the Vuelta, he has to show that he can beat his teammates, not just that he can hang on long enough.

People making light of van Hoydonck's accident and Vingegaard's honor of him doesn't seem to know the simple fact that these two riders are very close friends. Vingegaard doesn't make these gestures without meaning. Also, those who believe that Vingegaard attacked Kuss today, hasn't been following what the team and what Vingegaard, Roglic and Kuss have all stated multiple times. The best rider should win and they are allowed to attack, all three of them. So Vingegaard didn't break any agreements at all, he wasn't being a dick towards Kuss, and he isn't unpopular in the Peleton or the public either - he's just reserved, that's his personality. But those complaining, look at the comments Vingegaard has been making all of the Vuelta. He wants the best rider in the team to win, he believes and believed it would be him in the third week and now he's delivering on what he said. Get over yourselves.

You apparently do not know or understand the history and tactics of cycling. It is bad form to attack your teammates when they are ahead of you in the GC. It is terrible tactics. @@petesis7934 It absolutely isn't bad tactics and has happened many times before. That was how Sastre won the TdF. It's all about using the ressources you have. It doesn't help TJV if Vingegaard and Roglic are sitting in 2nd and 3rd with very good legs and suddenly something happens to Kuss and they have to pull for him and Ayuso wins. Instead, having three riders well out in front of Ayuso is the better tactic. Even Kuss agrees that the strongest should win and that the strongest right now is Vingegaard: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bneVlZidprOBlZo You can hear his own words there. There was a lot of palaver when Froome let Wiggins win. It was unethical and unsportsmanlike. If Kuss is the strongest, he wins. If he's not, someone else will. All these people saying that Jonas and Primoz are screwing over Sepp…come on people. Jumbo-Visma went into this race with two leaders; Jonas and Primoz, while Sepp (from the beginning of the race) has been a luxury helper for those two. While it has been such a pleasure to see him riding the leaders jersey in a Grand Tour, you simply can’t hand him a GC victory in what is basically the third most prestigious race in world of cycling. Also, let’s be honest, I don’t think Sepp has any interest in being given the victory knowing that some of his teammates could have beaten him if they had been allowed to do so. The Vuelta should be won by the best rider. The Vuelta deserves to be won by the best rider. It’s not a race that should be viewed as an opportunity to do a “thank you for all of your hard work this season. Here’s a thank you gift”. That’s something you’d do with an individual stage win within a Grand Tour - not the Grand Tour itself.

If he is feeling ok and this was a chance to get more time for plan B then it’s just team effort. If tomorrow they go all in then we know TJV is free for all and it’s their own right. What I don’t get is why attack like that before a crazy climbing stage when you have the whole podium. Kuss has never fought for a grand tour, we don’t know how he’ll do on the Angliru, best to keep their heads cool - whether it is fair or unfair for Kuss is something which can be argued, the fact that doing the whole podium is better than just doing the first and second isn’t.
