In this video, we look at how the Haber Process is used to make ammonia. We explore the reaction and the how the conditions are chosen to maximise the yield of ammonia.
This video is based on the AQA spec. If you are following a different exam board then you should check your specification. The Amazon link above is an affiliate link. This provides a small commission which helps to support freesciencelessons. The cost remains the same to you. @Freesciencelessons
@Freesciencelessons 4 жыл бұрын
Well it's the percentage of ammonia in the mix when it reaches equilibrium. This is a bit different to percentage yield. The percentage yield is (number of moles of product / maximum possible number of moles of product) x 100. With the Haber process, the ammonia manufacturers do a number of things to increase the amount of ammonia eg recirculating back over the catalyst. These have the effect of increasing the percentage yield.

Could you please simplify the term “compromise temperature”
@Freesciencelessons
@Freesciencelessons 3 жыл бұрын
Ideally the reaction would be carried out at a high temperature to increase the rate of the reaction. However, if we did that then the yield would be very low (as the forward reaction is exothermic). So we choose a "compromise" temperature which is not so hot that the yield is low but is not so cold that the rate is low.

It depends on what your teacher's markscheme is accepting. Personally, I think you would need to be more specific to get the mark. It's the kinetic and potential energy of the particles in water molecules.

Please could you make a video about this or explain in the comments? Thanks!

Hi. I'll try to make a video on that before the exams. However, please be reassured that you are generally not required to rearrange equations that many times in the exams. Usually, they're fairly straightforward.
