The Times newspaper recently wrote that mini exams will be scrapped and there will be one-to-one meetings with teachers and students to decide their final grade? What is that all about?

I haven't seen the article, but it's unlikely the grades will be dished out after a chat with their teacher. The government doesn't trust teachers and Ofqual wants some kind of classroom assessment. They are trying to drop the term 'mini exams' because it is embarrassing for Johnson after he scrapped exams. I'm guessing that Monday will reveal past paper classroom assessments, chosen by the teachers. It's a compromise to avoid bad headlines.

It looks like it. The difference seems to be that the teachers are doing all of the marking and appeals process, while the exam boards take a long vacation.

The TES journal suggested that they know it will be past papers that are available online for free at the moment.

It depends if they ask you to do another past paper, because if you got 9 in the mock you should do that again with some preparation. Knowing the questions in advance helps. I will do a video on this soon.

Hi, it's best to talk to your teachers as I'm not familiar with the Edexcel iGCSE. I've attached the link to the website. I'm guessing that if you are sitting external exams they will be unseen from the exam board, wheras if you are talking about an assessment by your teacher it could come from a past paper. Good luck.

Having read the article, I think it is speculation only, based on what was said before the consulation started. There's no mention of a leak. It may be the case that they use old and new papers, and that they are testing the water by putting stories out there. We will hopefully know for sure in the coming hours or days.

If they do go with this idea of providing new mini exams to the schools, they will either be physical copies or made available online. The exam boards charge a lot of money for providing papers each year, so they ought to provide hard copies, but we live in strange times. The release of papers depends on the conditions set by Ofqual. Are they sat at the same time or during a window of opportunity? It's still not clear they will do this. They may just use past papers and have a window of opportunity for teachers to arrange them. Will know the details this week hopefully.

That seems to be what is being suggested for A Levels as well. The report comes out next week to confirm, but when these things are leaked early like this it usually suggests they want to test the water to see how people react.

They will resemble mocks in that the questions may be taken from past papers. If they do this, the only question is whether they give you the question in advance, or keep you guessing which of the past papers they are using.

The rumour is that they won't use 2020 papers, just 2017-19. Should know on Monday either way.
