thank you for this video! However,i dont understand why you multiplied for question 17 method A instead of adding
@MrTompkins3 жыл бұрын
In probability /selection, "or" generally means add, "and" means multiply. Here you need to pick an odd number AND a multiple of 11, hence multiply.

Hello Mr Tompkins! On question 27: 10/30 when we start, 9/31 for the first pick, 8/32 for the second pick I can understand. My question is for when "another disc is taken at random". Should we not proceed to this step? Should we not have 7/31 at this point? Thank you.
@MrTompkins4 жыл бұрын
Hey Marco! I think you are 1 pick ahead of yourself here. The first pick occurs when there are 10/30 reds. The 2nd pick is when there are 9/31 reds,. The final "another disc is taken at random" is the 3rd selection - so it is when there are 8/32. If we played the same rules of adding two blues after the 3rd pick, then the 4th pick would have 7/33, and if not it would be 7/31 as you say. But we are only considering the first 3 picks, so we dont actually get this far!
@mocs764 жыл бұрын
@@MrTompkins Of course it is. I was actually 1 pick ahead . Thank you!

Hello Mr Tompkins Ques 17 why did you use number 9 If it is eoeo This should be Even no. 2,4,6,8=4 Odd no. 1,3,5,7=4 4×4×4×4=256
@MrTompkins2 жыл бұрын
What's wrong with using 9? It is an odd number after all. I'm not sure why you think it wouldnt be one of the options...If you explain your thinking a little more, I might be able to help you further =)

Every school is doing their own thing, so unfortunately I can't help you with this. What have your teachers told you about it? Most schools will likely use one of the more recent paper sets though, or maybe they sample from more than one paper set.

On minute 18:18 why did you specifically choose -5 I don't understand
@MrTompkins3 жыл бұрын
Hey Talha - you can think of the equation of a line as the rule that links the x-coordinates to the y-coordinates. If you substitute a value of x into the equation, it will give you the corresponding y value. Here though, we are testing whether a particular point lies on the line or not. I do that by taking the x-coordinate from the point we are given(-5), subbing this into the equation and see if the y-coordinate matches the one we were given (-6). In fact, we get the value -8, so (-5.-6) cannot lie on the line. I then compare the point I was given (-5,-6) with the one I actually calculated, which was (-5,-8), and I could see this must lie above the line.

Are you two friends? Small world! Are you still stuck on this Andrea? We dont know the scale but we do know that the total is 480. So I counted the number of the squares along the y-axis for each of these bars and called it for example 5x for the first bar. I then worked out all the areas, which came out to be 120x. Comparing this with the total of 480 cars allowed me to work out that x must be 4. This means that the 5x on my first bar must actually be 5 x 4 = 20.

Why did you delete your other walk through papers?
@MrTompkins4 жыл бұрын
I had to unlist them due to a copyright claim from AQA. They objected to me showing their actual papers. I am in the process of re-editing all my walkthroughs so they no longer feature AQA's logo and papers. It's going to take a while, sorry!

Mr Tompkins EdTech and how long do you think will take because I would like to know what subjects are my strong and weak points
on question 17 it dosent say the number a which the even and odd go up to so are we just meant to assume
@MrTompkins3 жыл бұрын
We do know what all the even and odd digits are though - Even digits are 2,4,6,8, and the odd digits are 1,3,5,7,9 (zero is excluded). The code needs to be in the form EOEO, so essentially we need to pick two even digits from our set of 4 even digits, and two odd digits from our set of 5 odd digits. Selecting our two even digits first, we have 4 choices for the first even digit and 4 choices for our second choice. That's 4x4=16 different possibilities. For the odd digits, I have 5 choices for the first odd digit and 5 choices for our second choice. That's 5x5=25 different possibilities. So altogether, that will be 16x25 = 400 different codes.

@@ToonOfLancing having to re-edit them in this way feels like a bit too much effort, and so I am very pleased for your help spotting any slip-ups! But we are where we are, I suppose. To be perfectly honest, I didnt expect AQA to assert their copyright in the way they did. These videos are clearly beneficial to students sitting their exams and presumably paying them fees for the privilege. It's a big setback for my channel, but I either quit or just get on with it....

Consider if the first 2 digits were 31, then the last two could be 11, or 22, or 33 or ... or 99 - so 9 possible codes that start with 31. Now consider if we started with 33. Again 9 possible codes. So for each starting pair, there are 9 possible codes. Given there are 35 different starting pairs, there must be 35 x 9 possible codes altogether.
