1:29:18 How could you factorise if you didn't know x=2 (other than the quadratic equation)?

If I didnt know one solution was 2, I would have just considered all the factor pairs of 26 until I found a pair that fit.

sir at the end of question 24 if the question said the radius is x then would the ratio have been radius:perpendicular height 9:32? Great video thanks

I’d need to rework the whole problem to check! Hmm, if I find 5 minutes and a bit of paper I might give it a try. Why did you want to know?

This was the hardest test only got 68.75% this is the worst score Ive ever had on a higher paper lost most of my points through Q23-26 at least now I can improve on what Ive done wrong but this test was time consuming took me an extra 20 minutes to finish

for question 21 whenever i type in 6x 1 1/3 on my calculator (obviously not like that i just don’t have a fraction button on phone keyboard) it gives me 2 not 8
@MrTompkins4 жыл бұрын
Hey idnsmsn dhekshs -if you have the same calculator as I'm using here, try using the mixed fraction button, which you can pull up by tapping the shift button before the fraction key. This will give you 3 boxes to enter your whole number, numerator and denominator. Alternatively, if you are using your phone try converting 1 1/3 first to a top heavy fraction 4/3 and you can then just type in 6 x 4 / 3 and it should give the right answer.

question 23, how is it a ratio of 3 to 2
@MrTompkins4 жыл бұрын
It comes from the fact that the strut is a third of the way up the ladder. The distance from the tip to the strut is 2/3rd. The distance from the tip to the floor is 3/3rds. So the ratio of the smaller triangle to the bigger one is 2/3rds to 3/3rds, or 2 : 3.

question 24 doesn't make much sense :(
@MrTompkins3 жыл бұрын
This is quite a tough question, which requires good knowledge of both mensuration and algebraic fractions. If you are struggling to follow it, try revising these two topics first.

For question 23 why did u multiply 48 by 3/2 , i didn't understand that part
@MrTompkins Жыл бұрын
Did you understand that the 2 triangles were in the ratio of 2:3? We are basically coming up with an equivalent ratio of 2:3 which is 48:”something”. You can find the “something” by dividing 48 by 2 and multiplying by 3

Hey I have my maths test tommorow so it would really help if u answered fast pleaseeeee. For question 9 why is the answer 71 and not 70. You can’t make an extra 0.5 laps. Please clarify

The question states that the race has to be greater than 305km. 70 laps wouldn’t be quite long enough. Good luck for tomorrow! 🍀

I think you got a wrong anser for Q 13. Its asks you about Tails (0.4) so 500 * 0.4 = 200
@MrTompkins4 жыл бұрын
Hey - I did work out the number of outcomes for heads first, which gave me 300, but then realised that it was tails they were after so switched my final answer to 500 - 300 = 200. I could have also used 0,4 as you did, and got there a bit quicker! So my advice - always read the question!

@@kubakakauko thanks! I've not made too many maths videos over the last few months, because apart from your good self, noone else seems to be watching them. I'm hopeful things will pick up a bit towards November when they are planning to do the resits. Is that what you are prepping for, or are you just here for the love of maths? Really glad to hear you are enjoying these.
@kubakakauko4 жыл бұрын
@@MrTompkins I'm sure things will get better and more people will watch the amazing material on your channel in the upcoming weeks. I think its all because of this coronavirus situation. GCSE's are cancelled and students will receive predicted grades, therefore, they think no revision needs to be done. However I myself want to make sure that if I don't get the desired grade I will be ready for sitting the exam in October and that's partially what I'm prepping for. I'm also trying to get a better understanding of mathematics since only now I see how important it is.
@MrTompkins4 жыл бұрын
Ah - a very wise strategy! I have told my own year 11 students the same thing, but most just went into holiday mode as soon as the exams were cancelled. Have you thought about A level maths? Most colleges are also offering core maths, which a lot of sixthformers are taking if they are doing numerate A levels, but not wanting to do the full A level course in maths. I've been teaching it this year, and it's actually really useful.

Question 23, why would you divide it by 2??
@MrTompkins4 жыл бұрын
Hey Rafia - I'm not really dividing by 2. I'm actually multiplying through by 3/2 as ratio of the smaller triangle to the larger one is 3:2. So the "dividing by 2" is just part of this scaler - its multiply by three AND THEN divide by 2. Does that make sense?

Why is 9) a 1/3
