Falcon 4 BMS 4.33 Tutorial 14 using FCR in RWS mode with AIM-120 AMRAAM

Today we're looking at the Fire Control Radar of the F16. We will be using Range While Search mode to engage a target with an AIM-120 AMRAAM missile.

I felt that I'd covered everything I could previously with regard to tutorials, but I'd need to go back over it. I do have general plans to get back to the F-16, and that will probably include BMS. I'm just so rusty it will take a while to get back up to speed.

At 12:26 you mention the DMC, Digital Maneuvering Cue, the degrees the target has to turn to go from high to nominal termination, where the missile is less potent at nominal termination. How does the pilot make use of the DMC to decide on firing a missile at the target?

It's a custom mission. I don't know if BMS are going to produce the missing training missions.

The issue usually is a misstep in the process.

you say "M Pull" when describing the hud symbology, what does Pull mean?

The terminology is M - POLE. You have A - POLE, M - POLE and F - POLE.

8:31 Are those slammers on the wingtip hard points? I thought the Falcon could only run smaller, IR misslea there.

They support both the AIM-9 and AIM-120. The USAF started running AIM-120’s on the tips a while back because it reduces wing flutter. Countries that use the AIM-7 run AIM-9’s on the tips, because those stations don’t support AIM-7’s.

I find it extremely difficult to believe that the max detection range for a fighter on an F-16 is only 50nm.

Sounds a little too good for an F-16 actually. It's a tiny aircraft with a tiny radar transmitter, that also has a small receiver.

I think the other simulator gives the viper an overpowered radar, more like 50-60 miles

Yeah I made this comment back when I was young and naive. Seeing as how small the radar is compared to other aircraft I am not surprised by this anymore.
