@@KingslayerBeforeDawn the outline gives you a rough area, it doesn’t have to be perfect because when the balls melt the surface tension will move the chip into the right spot assuming you have it mostly correctly aligned

You see the board and the chip got discoloured and turned to a brownish color, this would not have happened if i had more flux covering the board and the ram chip protecting them from direct heat.

Never have I seen solder balls like that. I have only seen the solder paste applied to a template and heated.

He needed a bit more flux, if you see he discolored the board a bit. If he used a little more flux to spread to take up the heat instead, it wouldn't have discolored. Only a minor mistake to be clear here.

So you dont need a full reballing station? Because i have been told if you dont have a hot plate underneath, to provide temperature evenly, the heat from the heat gun will damage the board.

I have a bottom heater but i dont use it, instead i just pre heat the board during the process before focusing the heat on the ram chip

If you know someone with a laser cutter and happen to have a few strips of that really thin stainless, can you have them make those stencils? I mean is it a downloadable file?Or do you have to go crazy with a micrometer precisely measuring. Or is there some software to turn a PNG into gcode?

You need a lot of coherence in a láser focus to do that , but its posible.

@@petevenuti7355 the template that you have to do will depend on what the laser machine accepts, ex: it requires a corel draw file or an image file, the owner of the machine can tell you.

@@turolretar its a sheet of springy stainless steel, it's very thin, but it's not copper foil. Might get a rough and dirty version with nitric acid to dissolve the steel. But it's sounds so messy I don't want to try.

I put low melt solder paste 183c or 138c, to mix with the old factory solder, it will lower the melting temperature of the factory solder, and help me remove it with ease and avoid ripping pads, you need to try it yourself, with low melt solder, and without, and you will see the difference.

Flux, Malla desoldante, Estacion de Soldado, Cinta Kapton y una buena Lupa y si tienes buen pulso eres un "Cirujano" electronico, q rico el olor de la resina al desoldar, lamentablemente nunca pude dedicarme a eso y solo de vez en cuando lo hago de hobye para reparle el celu o alguna q otra tablet a mi hijo, pero es hermoso!

I’ve always wondered how is this type of repair even feasible outside a factory. How is it possible that not even a single microscopic drop of solder spills over the next contact, literally 1/10th on a mm next to it and fucks up the whole thing??? And he just soldered blindly a chip with a couple of dozen contacts face down

Solder is very attracted to copper (and other solder). It's kind of hard to explain unless you've worked with it. It's the same concept as surface tension with water. With enough flux and a clean PCB (and lots of practice), you can resolder pins on an integrated circuit simply by dragging the soldering iron tip across the chip leads.
