You left out that the reason Todd had more DKP then Timmy is because Todd is a officer so was allowed to be in all the raids and when Timmy had More DKP than Todd. Todd then Benches Timmy for two weeks then Cycles Timmy in after the other Guildie catches up to Todd. Oldest scam in the book. GDKP prevent Guild control of loot and Allows player to be guild free and acquire the same loot as a guild.

The gdkp ban is definitely an interesting change but it’s weird how it’s policed. I knew a guy that quit and gave his gold to a friend and the friend got a 2 week ban. How can they reasonably enforce this policy if they don’t have people verifying things? It’s all automated

DKP could exist in the game on a personal level. Kill a boss and gain a DKP point. When you have enough points, you can buy a raid item from a vendor. The raid items in the vendor get unlocked when you have seen that drop from a boss so there’s still some RNG involved. This also means old raids hold some relevance to your current tier progression as you can gain points from any raid boss. If the item you want drops, but you don’t win the roll, and you have enough DKP saved up, then you can go buy the item from the vendor.
@Fatalbrah10 ай бұрын
sick idea tbh!
@Buttersaemmel10 ай бұрын
then people just buy gold for real money, to buy carries with that gold. whilste getting carried you see loot therefor unlock it and at the same time accumulate the DKP to buy said gear from the vendor. you may need to buy some more carries to see the loot you want and get more DKP, but that just means buying more gold. so this would just shift the problem.

Yeah, I remember first reading about it or hearing about it somewhere, during WotLK that in China they used the GDKP And just a week after that on my server a plaer I knew tried organizing the very first GDKP, because he read about it as well and thought it was a good idea. People were hesitant at first but later his gdkp runs became regular and folks "queued up" for those. It was either a video or an article or a topic on mmo-champs that we both stumbled upon...I cannot remember what it was. But it definitely was an introduction of GDKP into the EU realms.

It was definately helped along by Wrath being absolutely flooded with newbies and casuals who barely even played a videogame, let alone an MMO, the game hit 11 million players, the highest in WoW's history. The Vanilla and TBC players found Wrath incredibly easy and lacking in consumables grind. So lacking anything to do, they started boosted for tips, which I believe let into the GDKP meta, because why give something away for cheap when you're good at your "job?" Also Wrath just had an excess of gold, I believe it honestly started genuine but over time, inflation inevitably crept in, forcing casuals to pay to keep up.

@@cattysplatyeah wrath was the first time you could consider yourself a “hardcore raider” and really only need to raid log. Everyone had the 13k gold mount with vendors because there really wasn’t much else to spend it on. You could also pug all content not too long after the good guilds had gotten server firsts, it used to be a big problem in some guilds where people would just join a guild, get their kingslayer title, gquit and pug for the rest of the expansion with no consequences besides hurt feelings.

"Dragon Killing Point" is essentially an "artefact title" - similar to how we still measure power output by comparing how many horses it is roughly equivalent to. Initially this measurement helped when marketing/comparing early Steam Engines people had generally a good idea what an average horse can do (we currently use scientifically set Horse Power which is actually less than what horse can put out in short bursts, as the engines were compared to horses while doing a long day's work.) Since it is a standardized unit, just with a silly name, it has remained in use for allowing "apples to apples" comparisons between different engines/vehicles. Oh, the dragon was selected because it was the most common (or at least, one of the most common) type of an end-game raidboss in original Everquest. Game that allegedly had GDKP (or maybe rather, "gold carry") but just on a miniscule scale. Heavily geared hardcore guilds would take payments in exchange for running people through a boss who drops loot the guild doesn't need, but someone is willing to pay good amount of in-game Platinum coins for. RMT also existed back then, or at least there is a comic from the time joking that an Everquest convention's main draw was the ability to pay someone cash in-person and then do an in-game trade. Item selling on eBay provided an exchange rate that was used to conclude that EQ technically had a GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of a small European country.

I wanna say that I like GDKP as a concept. The idea that you can join different GDKP communities and raid when it pleases you. instead of being locked behind a schedule within a guild or joining random pugs with MS/OS and missing a rolls. One of my main form of entertainment in Retail wow for a few expansions was in fact just farming gold. It was a super rewarding aspect of the game that I really fell in love with. The idea that your ingame knowledge on what people want to spend gold on. what is expensive on the AH and where to farm it. keep track on what you sell so that you can restock on Tmog/pets/mounts/toys etc and do a weekly mail cleanout to see hundreds of thousands of gold in ur main each week was such a fun thing for me. During BFA I farmed over 5mill gold for the AH mount when they announced it would be removed. Didn't buy a single wow token or anything. just playing the game. GDKP also made me play the game a ton. I'd farm so much gold inbetween raid resets to maximize how much gold I'd have to spend in the next GDKP. which also made me go outside of the main cities which again made me do a lot more world pvp and create a lot of interactions with both my own faction and enemy faction. which was a lot of fun. GDKP also made the idea of having alts more appealing. If I can have multiple alts doing GDKP each reset I'd generate more gold from the split at the end. Which again I can spend more gold on my main character. Just leveled ur character to max level? trying to get into a pug? sorry! your gear is bad you get instantly kicked. Where in GDKP people want others with no gear. beacuse then they'll spend more gold on gear that drops. Non can deny that some people that do GDKP do buy gold. Which sucks. because then it makes it so that people like myself that farm the gold to spend in the raid format that I deem the most enjoyable being a cause of RMT. But if am talking stricktly Phase 1 SoD from my own experience. I did GDKP about every reset after the first two weeks. And the maximum the pot was at the end (the collective gold at the end) was about 150g on avarage. sometimes it was as low as 50g. sometimes as high as 200g. I can't say the others in those GDKP's bought or didn't buy gold because how would I know. But I assume not when the pot was never that high and an item would go up to 20g~ and others bidding would stop when they felt that was to much. But am not blizzard and I got no answers to that. Throughout these statements from blizzard and discussions on forums I've read, I feel a lot of people just assume that everyone that does GDKP buys gold and there is no other alternative. Sorry I got time to play the game for multiple hours each and every day and I know what sells on the AH and why it sells and how to earn a lot of gold on a weekly basis by just playing the game. Not everyone that does GDKP actually buys gold. But I also find it interesting how it should be allowed to buy BOE's on the AH for 900+ gold. How can we prove or deny that that gold isn't acquired through RMT? Or what about people that buy mage boosts? 3-5g per run or so and they sit there for hours. How can we know if that is RMT? Or what about people that buy consumables on the AH? are they RMT'ing? Why are some formats of trading gold to other players allowed and others not. if GDKP is bannable then other formats like these should also be bannable. It's as if in a competitive game some people are using hacks, and therefore the devs should remove ranked because some people hack to get high ranks. makes no sense imo. Just ban the hackers and let those that play the game normally do their thing. In this sense: the gold buyers. My view point on the people that RMT is that; people that buy gold dont want to play the game. They're the ones that want to to the raid. then stand afk in some city for 20min before they log off and do something else. They dont want to farm gold for consumables or enchants. They dont care for PVP/WPVP. And Usually find the idea of farming gold boring or annoying to do. Which again; is fine if you dont like any of those things. But blizzard should not let people RMT. Then again: I do think the idea of testing to ban GDKP as a concept is a good thing to see if it does anything against RMT. And where SoD is a experimental season in a sense. I think IF they ever were to try and ban it. this is the place and time. Which I can accept. But I do have a hope that they will implement it again down the road in other phases. Where I personally enjoy it a lot. The ban on GDKP have made me play the game less. Less reason to farm gold, I just try to have some gold on me for consumables and enchants. and the idea of having multiple alts also deminished for me a bit. I dont want to lock my alts to raiding schedules in guilds and I dont want to pug on each alt that I already have. GDKP solved a lot of my problems with raiding. Within my friend group it's a common joke that I got really bad rolls. I rarely win anything when I roll and it became kinda frustrating. The idea that I can farm gold. and then be the most willing to spend gold on a item was nice. And If I did not win it because someone was more willing. well then the overall pot for the group got better which again was a good thing. In normal raiding you only care about what YOU want. but in GDKP you care about what EVERYONE wants. because that's a opportunity to have a high pot which is a win for everyone. I had raids where nothing good dropped for me. but crazy good loot for rogues and warriors. and I was genuinely excited for the bidding phase at the end. The other aspect of GDKP for people that have never done it. You can bid on anything you want. there are no loot rules. If you bid on something more then others within the countdown. it's yours. Which made me able to get good PVP gear pretty fast. when you raid outside of GDKP and loot drop. loot goes with the idea of PVE first and foremost. So if a armor trinket drops and I am a caster. there is legit 0 chance am getting it. but in a GDKP: If i bid more I win it. Which also made gearing for PVP which I find a lot of fun to do more accessible. Fully BiS geared? no reason to raid anymore? Well there is a reason when GDKP is around. you join GDKP's as a Pumper. and keep doing the raids and make the raids smoother and faster. and get some do carry cuts and you also get a part of the pot. Which again is a solved problem no other raid format fixes. I went on a bit of a rant. But my ultimate idea is: Ban Gold buyers and Botters. not GDKP. make it so that people that buy gold are not able to do GDKP. and then GDKP will be a very healthy thing for the game.
@Grogritark10 ай бұрын
Absolutely my view. Nothing wrong with GDKP if the gold being spent is earned through farming. It's just the bots making the prices unobtainable for most players and ruining the economy.
@ISesseriI10 ай бұрын
The problem is that alot of the GDKP community is funded by gold sellers and botters. Alot of the money in the scene is dirty money, and how else are you going to sustain larger and larger pots? Unless every wotlk player in gdkps is somehow earning 20k gold a week by doing random shit I don't know about, there's def a large amount of gold purchasing.
@cattysplat10 ай бұрын
Yet Blizzard will never ban gold buyers and botters full time. Because they are loyal "customers" that keep paying up subscriptions in huge numbers. Even if not, they have chosen who they ally with. Genuine players are at the bottom of the pyramid.

I think the thing people don't really realize, is that gold buyers can just buy BOEs off the auction house and pay for carry runs. People treat GDKP as the main reason as to why gold buying and botting exists, but the reality is that these runs are not done exclusively by gold buyers, some people just like to play the AH and spend their gold to raid ; gold buyers spend their gold in other things beyond gear. If you want to stop gold buying, you have to cut it at the root of the problem: bots & hackers, not cut one of the branches.

That part about the "Free user vs Paid user" hits home for me. When you returned to hardcore, I decided to give Dragonflight a chance. I tried to see how much gold I could make farming ore for 2 weeks, and got about 300k, which made me very happy :) Then I realised I could've gotten 300k if I just swiped my credit card and bought a token, saving myself 2 week's worth of free time. Then I realised I'm competing against bots in terms of how much I can farm and in the auction house itself. I just can't do it anymore, comparing 2 week's worth of free time against 20 USD, I just feel like spending my time in-game is inefficient. That saying about the most efficient way to farm gold is to buy tokens is unfortunately true. Which is a shame because I don't have an issue with pretty much everything else. No more dailies, the new skill trees are the best of both classic and legion-era versions, I get to summon a freakin Pit Lord as a Demo Warlock. But the thought of "swipe credit card, use free time more efficiently for other things" is constantly there.

In relation to what you spoke about, one problem I have with systems like GDKPs in a world with RMT is that I like looking at a player in the game and being impressed by what they have. High PVP ranks, rare mounts, hard to obtain gear etc. With the current state of GDKPs, there's much less to see on a player where your reaction will be "Oh man, now that guy's cool!" Back in 2007 I remember seeing a warlock in full Tier 5 and my 13 year old brain went "Wow that guy is a fucking badass!" it was so cool to see. Nowadays, regardless of which version of the game I'm playing, I don't feel that same feeling very often. Maybe I've seen it all and I'm jaded? But I think a part of it definitely stems from wondering in the back of my mind if that guy next to me in his full SoD bis just swiped a card and got all his raid gear and paid people to walk him through all of his profession requirements. In a world where RMT does not exist, I think it'd still be impressive to look at people fully geared out. Because the amount of time and effort they spent getting the piles of gold needed to outbid everyone for their whole set? That's still some no-life commitment I can respect!
@Dreadskull9110 ай бұрын
Right, I mean that is the crux of the problem. You can have someone in full T3 in classic who barely knows how to play the game and just pays their way to the top. There's very few mechanics which wipe the whole raid for one player's mistakes so being carried through all of it is possible.
@jointser100810 ай бұрын

As I watch this video, even more I am happy that I quit while I "was ahead". Played classic till TBC and already was wrecked to see how the bots from classic moved to TBC mostly unscathed and keeping the same grind up 24/7. Not to mention the GDKP stuff, corruption around it and the general "don't give af" attitude from Hactivision/Blizz/Micro. Saddens me to see a great game become a draining shadow of its former self. Sadly I never got into the original times. Thank you so much for the content!

Small nitpick I had as a GM in classic into Vanilla with GDKPs is it left me with pretty much two options. Either I host a gdkp with the guild for farmed content we don’t need much loot from and bring as many whales as I could while still clearing efficiently, I stop clearing farmed content early l, fking over the people that still need items because it’s hands down the best moneymaker to fund content that actually matters or I force everyone to clear with the guild for 2-3 items with the rest being disenchanted and lock themselves out from the best money maker in the game. It even got to the point we would just send people to gdkp’s with guild gold sometimes so they could get that one item they need from 3 raids back and so everyone else could get their gdkp lockout. It just ruined many of the things about being a successful guild as it was no longer efficient to do farm content together for a couple of items when we could all make enough money for the next 3 weeks of progression in one night instead.

I didn't mind the wotlk wow token. At that point, it was a blessing already cause like 80%+ of my wow acquintances were either buying gold or benefiting indirectly through gdkps all the way since classic. Blizz hasn't done enough against botting/rmt during classic but the fact there was 50+ rogues on every server, 24/7 in brd pickpocketing and dozens of bot groups farming strath etc. is exactly because the fact that 80% of my wow contacts were either buying gold (since phase 1) or benefiting from goldbuyers through gdkp..

People think blizz doesn't deal with bots but they also don't realize how many bots are banned on a day to day basis. The problem is that there is a low cost for botters to setup a new bot so they are constantly creating new accounts. It's like fighting an endless flood. They have to attack the problem at both ends. They have been banning gold buyers more now and with this change they are limiting the desire for RMT
@Varitok110 ай бұрын
Because it's stupidly enforced. No one cares when they post their stats because I can log into any server and spot half a dozen mining bots at any given time. The obvious ones. They just ban a dude for trading 20g after a few dungeon runs instead.
@blehz10 ай бұрын
That's completely false. There's enough proof in videos how Blizzard does jack shit to botters, hackers (flying characters anyone?) and RMT'ers. They just don't care or it makes them money. We'll see how they'll enforce this new rule while they can't even keep all the other shit out of the game. And after sacking 1900 people? Who believes Blizz anymore?

I met some of the best raiders I’ve ever raided with joining their GDKPs in wrath. I went with them for about a month and then they invited me to their main guild. Which is not a GDKP system. Now we clear HICC every week and it’s a blast. I also made about 180k in wrath classic gold running GDKP and never swiped. I just have to grind them for a couple weeks and then I had all the gold I needed to buy what I wanted
@unbr3akable68810 ай бұрын
Yea, but that is the most insidious aspect of GDKPs in my opinion. As a normal player who doesn't buy gold, the best way to not fall behind and enjoy the game the way gold-buyers are enjoying the game is to join a regular GDKP raid. Basically join the rich club because blizz won't ban them. But in the process of getting the most out of it, we see the player base thin out until we're left on a dead server where the community aspect is just gone and the only thing left are GDKPs. As much as I enjoyed doing GDKPs in wrath, gearing up and making a fortune without ever buying gold.. I'm happy they are banning them in SOD

But I always cleared and learned content through my guild on my main and just had the fuck it dollars to enjoy them on a second round without as much commitment.

@lukasmischlich117810 ай бұрын
Blizz is enforcing it with an automated banning system. There's a lot of people reporting on getting wrongfully suspended atm tho and there is like no customer support left to check on ban appeals. And yeah gdkps would be a great loot system if there was no RMT.
@dumpsterplayer513310 ай бұрын
GDKP came to WoW Classic from the Vanilla Private Server scenes, like many other things. Its just a natural progression of PUG raiding once content is on farm, and there's a demand for gear. In OG Wrath it was a niche format that popped up toward the end of the expac because most people were content to just clear normal modes, but was squashed by Cata's difficulty spike, and once LFR came around it satisfied the content clearing/gearing needs of the casual playerbase. The system itself is great, and organized runs are on par with higher end guild runs (since they're usually populated by alts from different high end guilds anyway), the problem has always been how its intrinsically tied to RMT and cheating, and Blizzard chose again and again to ignore the botting and RMT problem long before GDKP was reintroduced to Vanilla classic. I'm not surprised about this ban, since SoD is very much an attempt to appeal to WoW boomers now that we're approaching the "WOW IS RUINED" expac era for Classic with Cata and MoP. The heavy gold-buying side of the system is bound to die out anyway with the oncoming expac, as buying high end gear carries is only viable when you can afford to carry a couple of deadweight swipers (and even then the "fresh 80 flashing 500k buying all the BIS" gold buyer is kind of a boogieman anyway, with the pop size of servers there's bound to be a few, but way less in relation to how many raids are ran weekly). The main problem is just the gold inflation from 4 expacs worth of botting, making buy in difficult even if you do have the skill to back it up, without swiping. I was playing on a smaller server, quit for a while, and now its basically dead and people moved to the only active server left in the region. I considered resubbing for ICC and paying for characters transfer, but its too much of a pain to have to play the AH for a couple of weeks to have enough of a starting fund to start raiding again due to RMT-induced inflation (as well as Classic's terrible performance in 25m raids that got me to quit in the first place, a new CPU upgrade + transfer fee would set me back a few hundred bucks). But even then, I'd still rather put up with that rather than having to go back to terrible SR and Need/Greed pugs.

It had little to no effect, maybe if you want to buy gold it's cheaper now, that's about it. If a bot farms just about 5$ profit in a day, it's still free money for those chinese people running 300 bots in their basement. Blizzard should bann them before they turn profit, but they failed to do it for years now, very unlikely to change unfortunately.

Thinking back to vanilla the players were so bad there was no way you could carry players. I was our only fury dps after the warrior patch and I always pulled threat because the tank just spammed sunder. Things have changed a lot since 2005. I still remember not getting nefs axe over an off tank because I would often agro and die. This was also because threat monitors back then miscalculated heroic strike and execute threat. I bought this up with the main tank that if he can't keep threat he should play like me, but I was ignored.
