As someone who has made a game, here's the biggest reason: to evaluate what a game does well and does poorly, we need to have a shared language. Some people are using the word nostalgia to simply mean "aesthetic throwback" instead of the literal meaning of triggering feelings and memories of familiarity. This makes a constructive conversation nearly impossible, as the term for an aesthetic choice is conflated with a description of ephemeral feelings and emotional responses.

Games absolutely can and do trigger a feeling of nostalgia, and there's nothing wrong with that. But making a new game will never be carried by nostalgia alone - at best, it can get people to try it initially, but it has to actually be a good game to keep people there. And that's the root of it: nostalgia is not a quality of the game, it's a quality of the player. If you want to talk about the game, then it's a meaningless factor.

Been watching this while training ranged skill... don't tell me you've been clicking the spell and targeting the cows with your magic, please. Just in case you didn't know, bottom right side (menu bar) are crossed swords; click them to select which spell you want to use and auto retaliate. That way you only have to click attack once. <3

I can proudly day after close to 15 years of playing. I got shadowmourne and sulfuras, and one half of a binding of the windseeker. Spent many years just grinding old content for xmog. I met someone once who had a character he played during vanilla and he still had the linkens sword of mastery in his inventory and when he came back to play xmog existed. I saw that sword model the first time I watching wow on g4 in like 2005 and always wished I could have gotten it for my xmog.

We are currently getting more than just Naxx. There is still no word on what will happen after. They said they want to keep the SoD around for guilds to get multiple Atieshs. I’m excited to see what is in store for SoD. I understand your view on classic. They did advertise it though as an experimental server. Though I feel they still haven’t done more. Until I saw what we are seeing now for phase 7. We are getting the Crypts and the Crystal Vale raid. Not sure what it is but the loading screen looks interesting.

most of my good memories as teenager and young adult comes from this game. once my kids grow up a bit i want to take my wife and play with her some old school wow :) also for me wow ended with wotlk. Story ended. Pandaria or legion had good raids etc... but it was not the same world.

Don't forget EVE-Online. Launched in 2003 and is still here. Classic era WoW, best WoW, imo. No shortcuts levelling, grinding gold, no pay to win, no "golden" ($$$) mounts, pets, etc, no Star Trek teleports to dungeons, no BS and what else.
