What is the best bug out shelter(tent,tarp) for family( 4 person)..God bless you
@EnduranceRoom3 жыл бұрын
@@danmal333 I would recommend scouting your area, finding several spots that you think would be good. It would be good to make caches, food, tarps, tools. The Aquaquest Defender or Safari 4x4 would be really good. There are lots of options, and I don’t think gear is as important as mental attitude, basic skills and planning. I made a tepee last year out of a few old tarps I found in the woods. It was simple and easy to make. I piled sticks on the outside to disguise and camouflage it. I was also able to have a small fire inside, and this was in a very small woods in an urban area. I would go far out as you can, but plan it out. Checkout Ivarr’s channel, Evasion Survival Alaska. He has a lot of good info. May God Bless and keep you and yours, always.

hey ..have the Gorka pants done...instead of leg pockets I put Molle in the spot...that way I can attach all kinds of pouches to the leg ...tomorrow I gonna test them out... I like that you do not strip the whole Forrest of its firewood even in a cold night... most of the folks burn fires all night..I figured it is a waste of time and energy in weather up to minus 15 c..a small fire for cooking is just fine..

At 6:05 you used a reflective (I think?) tarp as the ground liner. Shouldn't the reflective side be facing up? This way you can conserve heat by having your radiated heat reflected back at you. Or does it really matter what side is facing up?
@EnduranceRoom3 жыл бұрын
Technically, yes, but I haven’t noticed much benefit from it on the ground the way I setup my sleeping gear. I have been using two sleeping pads, one foam and one inflatable that is insulated. The grabber blanket serves as a moisture barrier/ground sheet.

@EnduranceRoom Жыл бұрын
Thanks very much! The needles were from a Balsam Fir. Typically, I prefer white pine. The tinder was inner bark from a maple. With a sharp 90 spine on your knife or even the back of a saw blade, you can process many different barks similarly, even from small shrubs or bushes.

Love my solo overnight camping! Never done a winter one yet, being a woose, not sure if I’d sufficiently brave enough to just do it. Also I don’t have the all the warm weather gear. Always a good excuse! This looks great with all the quietness & solitude! What was the temperature?
@EnduranceRoom3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Winter is my favorite time, as it is so quiet. It was about 20F this trip. Extra socks, hat, gloves and two sleeping pads all help big time. The military space blanket I use as a ground sheet can be folded up and over with the shiny side facing in, which also helps quite a bit. A bivvy bag will help increase the efficiency of your sleeping bag as well. There are a number of things you can do to get a little more out of your existing gear. I started out with a GI wool blanket and the space blanket, then figured I could wrap the wool in my canvas palatkas (big improvement). The biggest thing is getting good insulation from the ground and then keeping your body heat around your body as you sleep.
@ProtectAndPersevere3 жыл бұрын
Cool stuff man. I’ve been wondering with a good shelter/fire/appropriate clothing do you need a high “R” value sleeping pad to get a decent nights sleep in those conditions or a simple pad is adequate?
@EnduranceRoom3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. It isn’t necessary, but absolutely helps. I have been using two pads lately, a closed cell foam, like the USGI pad I used here, with a Klymit insulated pad on top. The Klymit pad is great. I have had it for about two years and no problems. Personally, I think the skills of using fire are absolutely important, but having the right clothing, shelter and sleeping gear that would allow one to survive comfortably is even more so.
@feldgraufox49273 жыл бұрын
Everyone likes to talk about the flashy shit like knives and axes or whatever but your sleep system is your most important bit of your kit. if you have a tarp, maybe a bivvy bag and an appropriate sleeping bag AND sleeping pad for the weather. You can do without pretty much everything else in an emergency. You dont need an elaborate shelter or fire, you save energy by staying nice and warm. Youre gonna be comfortable on an overnighter no matter what the weather does. Plus good quality sleep improves your quality of life for doing any other tasks like collecting firewood or hiking out the next day, whatever.

Just a quick question - why wouldn’t you build a shelter that closed at least at one end, if not both ends? Especially in the winter?
@EnduranceRoom2 жыл бұрын
Good question. The tarps didn’t lineup the way I had hoped. The backend of the shelter was closed, or almost closed... I think I blocked it off with my backpack, so there were 3 sides of cover. With even a small fire out front, a shelter like that stays warm. I didn’t have the fire going all night though, so the main factor for making it possible was having appropriate clothing and sleeping gear.

@ I have mostly been using Jervens. The Särmä version is comparable. Incredible kit. I have the Jerven Extreme and it’s super warm. It needs to be below 32F/0C to use (for me).

Were the no concerns for wild life in that area? All that food and cooking, sprinkling flavoring salts which appeared to go onto the ground as well as the meat? All the places I ever backpacked or just camped you needed to take great care with that or risk visits from nocturnal animals looking for some easy food and potentially harming your gear and/or you.

Bears hibernate during the winter. There are some wolves and many coyotes, but they stay away.

Thank you! Things seem to be picking up, over seas. Gas was shut off from Rus to Grmny today, which feeds rest of Erp. Looks like the fan is about to get dirty.

Dude. Your page has potential. Say something, explain what you're doing, be funny (if you can). If you think the silent treatment is your "Thing" you're wrong. Your Views tell a different story.

@@EnduranceRoom Interesting, I didn’t send a message to be a jerk or anything, I feel bad for you guys that produce good content while FB screws you all. There were at least 6 ads during your video, and I can’t help but think you’re not seeing a penny? I hope I’m wrong.

Another excellent video Jess. Really like your shelter configuration in this one, and the use of carabiners on the prusik knots, on the ridge line is a cracking idea! I have always tied my tarps to ridge line directly usind prusiks, and usually keeping them attached. Great for quick deployment as it means just making a ridge line, but a pain when you want to set up an alternative configuration, so im going to switch to your method using carabiners 🤌 thanks!

Thanks Will! Glad you liked the carabiners. It was new addition. I have used twigs to lock the tarp into the prusik loops for years, but am digging the carabiners myself. Definitely pretty convenient. Have a good one!
