I have the exact same fan, same color, same grill, but it's a Westinghouse, and has a button on top you press to go between the 2 speeds, but a 3 steel blade fan. Looks like a company made these fans and then tweaked them for the various brands. I just picked up mine at Habitat for Humanity Restore today. It has a sticker on it that says it tested OK. I'll try it out tomorrow. I grew up in the 1970's with a GE W-25 fan, the same as this one but with the cowl in it, and it was 3 speeds. And it was white.

Interesting, I didn't know these were re-branded.

@@JordanU - After I saw this video I did some more research online. I found a message board where a guy put up photos of one he restored. The guys there were saying that they believe GE stopped actually making fans around 1969 or 1970. The fans from then on were made by Hunter, and Hunter made fans for a number of brands at that time. The bottom of my fan says it was made in Mansfield, Ohio. I live just more than an hour from there and drive past there about every month. With mine being a Westinghouse brand I am going to see if they ever had a plant there. The info stamped on the bottom of the fan does not have "Westinghouse" in it. I'll look at it again and get back to you. Interesting stuff, for us nerds.

@@JordanU - I just plugged it in and ran it. It is perfect. No vibration. No unusual noises. It's the 1970's all over again. It also has no rust to talk about. It's going to be a fun summer.

So, after hearing the motor i have a solid diagnostic. One, the buzzing issue in the motor is a loose shaded pole. Easy to fix. Super glue it back down. I have a video on how to do that. As far as the hammering, you will have to resort to filing down the inside around the stator. I had a W25 do the same issue with the hammering and it solved my issues. I have the video on that too. Check it out on my channel. The two are "GE box fan maintenence video" and "GE W25 repair video" hope these help you!

I probably won't be getting around to this project any time soon as I have a lot of other things going on, but I appreciate the suggestions and will definitely take a look at your videos soon.. I really would like to get this fan usable again..

7:43 sounds identical to the rattling it makes when normally running. I think the bearings are shot and the fan is loose because of this.

The bearings may be spoiled.

You’re right most of the fans on eBay are overpriced There are even old air raid sirens that look horrible that go for 300+ dollars

that's sad bro i think once you service it and see what the problem is and fix the dent that fan will be usable i enjoyed the video i kind of sound like the bearings could be rubbing against something not sure ..

I hope I can get it fixed, I'm not sure exactly what's going on in that motor but it's definitely not good..

@@JordanU no its not good i still can't believe USPS cause that much damaged to the cabinet did you ever make that claim against them and are you still going to service the fan ? soon
@JordanU5 жыл бұрын
@@LemontTheFanMan Yes I did try to file a claim but they said if the claim is granted then I have to give them the fan and they're going to refund me what I paid for the fan but not what I paid for the shipping.. I thought that was a joke, stupid, outrageous and ridiculous so I didn't bother to go through with the claim..

That my friend is the sound of rooted bearings
@JordanU4 жыл бұрын
Rooted bearings is the source of the problem, but I think the sound is the rotor colliding with the stater.

Is this the one you were working on in the other video?

Yes, this is the same fan.. At some point I forgot about a number of videos I recorded (this one included), and it's caused several out-of-order video series..

Jordan U - Nice video of the GE Box Fan, which rather sounded unhealthy because of the bearings rubbing up against the fan motor! Is that what the problem was?
@JordanU6 жыл бұрын
I believe the bearings are worn causing the blade to rattle, and perhaps the windings have come loose over the years and are vibrating..
@1998MonroeNYColonial6 жыл бұрын
Sounds just as bad as the other 2 speed twin you filmed a while back.
