I was so excited, until I took apart the 3 things shown in my GE dishwasher which was bought new in May 2022...... and found mine does not have that part under the filter. Maybe its underneath and more thermostat style. Ok, wasn't a total fail. Since I did take out the lower blade, larger filter, and pump filter.... I cleaned everything thoroughly, reassembled and ran a test run and now its 123F (using infrared temp checker). So I guess it was clogged pump filter?
@dadfixdit
@dadfixdit 5 ай бұрын
Hmmm that still doesn’t sound hot enough to me. If you run a sanitary cycle with heated dry, at the end of the cycle while it’s drying you shouldn’t be able to hold the dishes because they are so hot. So there are some neat diagnostics you can run if you do a little digging. Google your dishwashers part # and “service manual”. You should be able to find out how to enter test mode and kick on the heater without running a cycle to ensure that it works. Let me know how you make out.

I replaced this part along with the lower arm and everything went great with your help. However, once we ran it again, it leaked through the bottom pretty bad. I tightened the ring around the thermistor really good when I replaced it. Was there a rubber washer or another part that is needed to seal it better?? Please help. Thank you
@dadfixdit
@dadfixdit 2 ай бұрын
@@nomad508 there is an o-ring at the bottom of the thermistor assembly. You definitely don’t want to over tighten it. A couple things to check- 1) make sure the o-ring is actually there 2) make sure the o-ring from the one you removed wasn’t stuck in there and now you have a double o-ring which will leak. 3) make sure there isn’t a crack in that flood switch/thermistor unit. Let me know how you make out. Thanks for watching!

As an appliance repairman I appreciate this video for any DIYer as it is an easy and inexpensive fix if you called a professional appliance repair company on this they would probably charge you $225 to do this simple repair unless he is an independent like me and I would probably charge you 125 to 140 has the big company with a fancy trucks and fancy uniforms play their employees on commission or hourly therefore their rates are much higher. But the real reason for my commentary is that I 100% agree with a small town girl that's a GE dishwasher is one of the worst if not the worst on the market today trust me I know I've had GE dishwashers not even two to three years old that are unrepairable because of faulty main board and user interface boards that cost more than the price of a new unit bottom line don't buy this dishwasher.

Hey Andrew. It definitely could be the element but the few elements that I have seen fail had visible damage. I have a question: your repair will fix my problem if it have no hot water in the dishwasher? I have water is coming in, but dishes aren’t totally clean especially with oils or grease on the dishes, and I do notice its not hot inside the dishwasher after the dishwasher run. I do know my hot water heater IS working when the dishwasher is on….
@dadfixdit
@dadfixdit 4 ай бұрын
There’s a good chance it could fix your problem. As with all of these appliances there could be multiple issues. But if your dishwasher isn’t heating the water above what your regular water heater puts out (hot water fill line) then yes, this may be your solution. The water that comes from your water heater isn’t hot enough to effectively clean or sanitize your dishes because if it was it would burn you. You need the heating element in the dishwasher to add extra heat to clean well. If you do a deep dive on the web you may be able to find a service manual that lets you activate the heating element to see if it works. If not, this is at least a cheap solution to try and you can probably return it if it doesn’t work. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the video. When I pulled out the flood switch thermistor there was no wiring harness beneath it. It kind of fit into another round hole with a little plastic white tab that I can best describe as the thing that aim for on a dunk tank (should have taken picture before I put it all back together). I tried pulling, turning, etc. but didn't want to break it. Ended up cleaning a ton of gunk out of those parts and put it back together. Thinking maybe the float wasn't functional because of the build-up but we'll see. Any thoughts on where the wiring harness would be? I have a GDT model.
@dadfixdit
@dadfixdit 10 ай бұрын
Hmmm…. That’s odd. Are you sure that the harness didn’t fall off when you pulled it out? Did it have a plug on the bottom ? Mine is a GDT as well. There definitely isn’t a lot of slack with the harness so it is possible that when you removed it it popped out and fell down. Look at the picture in this link- is that what it looked like? amzn.to/48s3XDL

So my dishwasher is brand new. Literally been used like 10 times or less. Is this still my issue do you think?!
@dadfixdit
@dadfixdit 7 ай бұрын
Wow that’s kinda crazy. What kind of dishwasher is it? My first question would be is it under warranty? The second question would be to make sure you turn on and off the “heated water” cycle a few times just so it cycles through the modes. Or run it on sanitary then regular cycle. Just to make sure the lack of heat isn’t related to a specific mode. Let me know how you make out. Thanks for watching!

It looks like it has the same thermistor/flood switch assembly as in the video. Check this link- I believe it’s the full service manual for your unit. www.manualslib.com/manual/1571724/Ge-Gdf510pxj-Series.html#manual I think you should have a similar assembly though.

My model doesn't have this part. Is a Turbidity sensor the same thing?
@dadfixdit
@dadfixdit Жыл бұрын
No, that’s something different. My limited understanding of a turbidity sensor is that it detects how much light gets through the water which allows it to determine how dirty the water is and it adjusts cycle length off of that.

Hey this was really useful thanks! Is there any way you could do a video showing how to use the multimeter to check if the heating element is bad or not? I have a multimeter but am a complete newb and when I looked up tutorials online they seemed like you need a complicated understanding of electronics and voltage to even know how to read the results. I’m looking for the “for dummies “ version just to test my heating element. 😁 Thanks again, this might save me calling an expensive repairman!

@dadfixdit

Yeah that makes sense. That switch is a combination flood switch and thermistor. The flood switch tells it to stop pumping water and the thermistor tells it its too hot. Did you replace the switch already?

@@johnnysvlog2187 it’s a pretty generic part. If you pull your existing one out and it matches I would say it’s ok.
